AIS questions Empty
PostSubject: AIS questions   AIS questions EmptyWed Apr 28, 2010 12:32 am

Ok, I know it's sorta silly to ask since this mod is so common, but I am having trouble finding a how-to article on what to remove. The search function on this site doesn't really work..

I wanted to bring the bike into a shop to get dyno'd. The local shop has a promo going on, $25 to put the bike on the dyno. I just wanted to do my flapper mod and bring it down there, have them do a run and see how the A/F ratios look. If they are good then I won't have to spend money on power commander. Anyways I was wondering if the AIS will mess up the sniffer for the dyno because it's injecting extra air in there. I know it's only supposed to do so under deceleration, but I have heard on other bike forums to always plug the emissions/air afterfire system before dyno tuning.

I see a lot of AIS plug kits on ebay that are $30 for just a block off plate, pretty sure I could machine one myself if I knew exactly where it was going. And also I am guessing I will have to stick a vacuum plug in the intake so I won't have a big leak? On all my other bikes the AIS (or whatever its trademark name is called) draws clean behind the air filter. I'm guessing this is also the case for the wr?

yes...the search function here sucks sometimes. Not sure why.
I also hate that sometimes when you insert links they are forced to the beginning of the post and not popped into where you want them.

Yes plug the AIS for the dyno run. Yamaha says only on neg pressure at idle but better safe than sorry since its so easy. On the "big bikes" I messed with plugging the air induction is considered a must for dyno runs. Either get a block off kit or just plug it for the dyno run.

Does installing the AIS removal kit increase performance or just prevent backfiring.

Thanks!

No performance gain at all.

Thanks for the quick reply! What is the purpose, is it just the backfire issue?

Also, what other upgrades do you recommend? I have installed a Q4 w/powerbomb header so far along with FMF programmer.

Thanks!

I think it's an emissions thing, but I removed mine so I really don't care.

I hear it's supposed to help prevent back-firing and such....but again....I don't really care.

It's extra crap that's not necessary.
