No sense hangin' around here, then. KTM? husqvarna 250 I think, that was my first choice but the gearing just sucks, I'm hoping the 2011 version fixes that

- What did you do for the front brake, running the big rotor still?
I was hoping the big fat front tire would make it MORE stable on soft surfaces? For the front brake, all I can say is I'm cautious. Since offroad I tend to take a better contribution from the rear brake, it helps a lot.
The smaller the front wheel, the quicker the front tends to change direction. That's why a larger diameter front wheel helps to stabilize the direction when rolling over many changing obstacles, it's less nervous. When on soft surface you often don't event see the obstacles under the sand or mud. You find out by feeling the change of direction the front of the motorcycle initiates by itself. That one reason why we keep our weight on the rear and only change that to initiate turns so the front bites in the good direction et to let the rear slide along. Ok, then I guess what you're saying is you are using the big X brake on the 21" front wheel? That's what I was wondering. I'm not having a problem with the front big brake off-road yet, though I haven't done anything too technical yet. I just grab it with 1 finger instead of 2.

It's more a matter of speed than a technical ground. You don't want your front wheel to stop rolling when on loose terrain. Even with one finger, this front brake combined with the fact that the bike is not that heavy, you must be careful. All I know about it is with the front 17" since I didn't receive the 21" yet. The 17" front, the big rotor and the slicks of the X alltogether teached me to be soft on the front brake. It's amazing what you can go through with the stock X when on dry and hard trail.

On my Weestrom the kinked tank and scratches are witness of learningship. Since I'm slow learner there are going to be more dents and scatches on some bikes.
