Just did mine yesterday... I removed the cotter pin and pin at the very rear of the brake lever. I was then able to lift and gently pull out the brake lever to get enough clearance to remove and replace the footpeg pin. I used a small piece of wood to hold the brake lever up and out of the way. This allowed me to do it, but it was still difficult. I was having trouble installing the footpeg pin into the new footpeg. Getting the hole aligned with all of the spring tension was not working until I used a large round screwdriver blade up through the bottom of the footpeg hole to apply enough pressure to get things aligned.
