| Hi everyone, A quick thank you for all the advice and help in my bike search. ultimately I decided to go for more offroad focus and bought an '09 Husky today. This is a great community, hopefully I'll see some of you Canucks out on the trails this summer. Cheers, Andy | |

| Ok, Ok. Here y'go. It's a Blue Plated '09 TXC 250 with a big bore kit, Rekluse clutch, hand brake kit, TuBliss inserts, euro engineering suspension (being set up for my height and weight, currently is lowered) , silicon rad hoses, skid plate, rad guards, moose bark busters and a few other goodies. I just couldn't walk away from it! (mechanic was still working on it so it's missing a chain) | |

| Drool..... So what's the maintenance schedule for that? How often do you change oil, adjust/check valves, replace top-end, ...... I'm still drooling, but the work required to own a Husky like that is daunting. _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

| Thanks, i couldn't leave it behind once I saw it in person.
I thought the maintenance was going to be too much at first too, then I spoke to a number of Husky owners, mechanics and the shop I bought it from. The Husky is designed to be easy to work on, I can change the spark plug in about 5 mins for example. No need to pull the tank or remove anything. Just put a wrench on it and remove. The valves can be checked in about 20 minutes. Everything is easily accessible.
Most folks seem to change the oil every 10 hours of use or so and changing the filters every 20. I'm still looking at the interval for valve checks, but it looks to be pretty reasonable, checking once per season seems to be common for general trail riders, more frequently for racers. Again, adjustments are pretty easy if necessary. The motor in my bike is the last generation motor (not the current ultra compact version) and everyone I have spoken to says they are as bullet proof as your going to find. Sure problems may arise, but judging by all the owners I've talked to, these bikes are much more reliable than the reputation they have online (I thought the same until I started to seriously look at them). Several folks I know of are into the 14-15000km to 25000km on their original top end.
Compared to the RR that's pretty intense, but not bad at all for a performance tuned 4s.

| Looks nice, but I think the maintenance would put me off. I have been looking at the new 630 SM, which I think is available from April (??) in the UK. Looks like a pumped up R2!! http://www.husqvarna-motorcycles.co.uk/husqvarna-Locator-new.aspx?attributes=Type&values=Supermoto Does look expensive though.....
Maybe Yamaha will make something to compete with this????

| I love the new Husky 310 street legal dirt bike. So light!
But I would never, ever, buy anything that didn't say Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki or Suzuki on the side. No way, No how. And I have the money to.
I've been riding for 31 years, and been on thousands of trips on and off road all over the world. Anything "exotic" (and that includes BMW and KTM) is impossible to fix, wheras every podunk town and mud shack on the planet has a Yami, Kawi, Suki, or Honda dealer in it. I've learned my lesson through other's misfortunes...

| Sweet bike! What does it cost to rebuild it? Crank up? | |

| Which one? Mine is running an athena 310 kit, so I'd assume around 700 - 800 bucks? That wouldn't include rebuilding the head itself though. My bike has such low miles I'm not worried about it yet. I'm not going to race it a whole lot, and my skills certainly won't push the motor to it's limits like a pro would. From all accounts these motors are good for some decent mileage before a rebuild is necessary, especially if they are used lightly and maintained well. Ignorance is bliss ! Ask me again after the honeymoon is over! | |
