Without Googling around to ensure I have the story straight, this bill bars teachers from discussing homosexuality, but does allow them to discuss other issues concerning sexuality?

If that's true, then this is a BS bill. You either do or you don't discuss sexuality in classrooms. I don't know what age it becomes appropriate, but I think I can safely say kindergarten is a little bit young, and grade eight is a little bit too late.

More to the point, why do parents now depend on the school system to instruct their children on sexuality? Having volunteered with a few organizations catering to kids, it never ceases to amaze me how many parents want to abdicate the responsibility of parenting their children to somebody else - including a volunteer whose ethics, beliefs, morals, etc they know nothing about.

Honestly, does the Tennessee Senate have so few issues to focus on? Little issues for little minds... Please... Hopefully their House of Reps has more sense.

In what is admittedly a highly surprising turn of events for my area of the US, our pathetic little state has passed a Civil Unions bill.

I think had this been left to a public vote that it might have been turned down much like California.

The passing of the bill has to be one of the biggest highlights my local government has achieved in decades from where I view things.

Unfortunately I also got to read a lot of responses from people who live here on the local newspaper's forum and I am saddened by the ignorance and
hatred that swells within so many people that live around me.

Gay isn't cancer.
Gay isn't an infectious disease.
Gay isn't the downfall of modern society.
Gay does not cause horrific natural disasters cast down on us by "god".
Gay marriage does not change what "straight marriage" means.
