I sat on a friends 450F yesterday, it was shorter than my 250R

maybe a few mods and a 290 conversion would be more realistic or just get a 450F, they are completely different bikes

How short is short?
I'm 5'5", myself.

That engine ain't going in there without a whole lot of planning and work.

I have a 450F and it's main disadvantage is the 5 speed transmission. Colorado and Arizona make it easy to license for the street, but riding it to the dirt is a major pain in the ass. If Yamaha would add a 6 speed and street legal gear they would have a killer dualsport, just like the WR250. I haven't had the 250 long enough to really compare the two, but the 250 is every bit as much fun as the 450, just a bit more street worthy.

As to height, once I put on dirt tires on the 250X, I think they will be close to the same height. I'm 5'9" and have to tiptoe the 450, but it's not really a problem once you get used to it.

All I can say is good luck. I don't doubt it could work but do not expect it to be easy, lots and lots of modifications would need to be made. Post some photos if you actually try it.

There's a pretty large thread on this up on supermoto junkie. I believe it's stickied under the Yamaha section.
