Took a day off work and trailered up to Castlemaine in central Victoria where my folks live to go for a ride round some of the trails I used to do when I was a kid
Here's Dad casting an eye over the new toy
ready to go!
A little bit of single track to start with, It had been raining all last night but the trail was
in perfect condition
The trail opens up before I drop in a little valley called Moonlight Flat
The trails got a bit overgrown since I was last in here
Eventually got through and into a pine plantation known as the Pinies, its easy to get lost in here
as it is a labyrinth of tracks that all look the same
lots of little steep hills
Found an old quarry, back in the 1800's this area had one of the richest Gold deposits in the world
there are hundreds of old mines in the area
This is an old sand dump, a big kids sand box to play in
But I am not sure about this
This is the remains of an old water wheel
This is what it looked like in the day
A great road to pin it along
Until I hit this rubbish, like riding on ball bearings
Logging today, go away
Never been down here
an old mine
got a bit lost round here
Can get spooky deep in the pines!
This mine has become someone's rubbish dump, god knows what's in there
A dead end!
