How to remove the plastic protector which protects the swingarm from the chain eating into it? Mine is full of crap and needs a clean. As far as I can tell its only held in place by the one screw on the front (which I removed). I managed to loosen the whole piece but wasn't able to remove it. Is the plastic only one piece and is it possible to remove it without dismantling half the bike? I dont want to remove the chain/front sprocket... is it possible?

I'm pretty sure I finagled that thing in and out of there without removing the swingarm in the past. It hooks on a tab of sorts and then there's the bolt. Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure I removed the whole kickstand (the silver mounting bracket with arm attached) to get it off.

Remember, it's plastic and it flexes. This is good in this case. wink

Yes, one piece.

Yes, remove without dismantling the bike.

You have to wrestle the thing out but it will come. Don't worry about breaking it, it's pretty sturdy.

As above, don't forget the tab towards the back of the swingarm.

You don't HAVE TO remove anything else but it's helpful to pop the counter sprocket cover off to make it easier. And there's no point in cleaning the swing arm protector without cleaning the counter sprocket cover too.

Alright thanks for the help.

The front sprocket protector is already off and has been cleaned.

I'll go take a look and apply some more brute force Very happy

So I tried with plenty of force but still no luck. I can get it pretty far out but it seems the kickstand brace is in way... but I cant remove it because I have no center stand...

It seems that the connecting piece between top and bottom close to the front sprocket is extremely tight and rigid that there is no way of sliding it back. Maybe I'm just using the wrong technique....

Anybody have an clues on how to solve this mistery? I'm already starting to smell the bitter failure GAHHHH

Try popping the wheel off. It will give you a better angle to yank that sucker out.

I have gotten mine off without removing the kickstand mount but it was difficult and you have to bent the slider pretty far. I prefer just removing the mount though. You could just lean the bike up against a tree for a few moments to get it out once the kickstand mount is off.

Somewhere I've read that removing the rear subframe linkage on that side works wonders.
Haven't tried it yet though. Looks like my swingarm protector may go 10,000 miles...

Success!

Removing the kickstand did the trick. Just had to ask somebody to hold the bike for a couple minutes and job was done.

Walls / trees are handy things to keep around, I have a few for just this purpose.

certainly so. however it is better to take that opportunity to ask the smoking lady next door in my dorm for help. And promptly inviting her for dinner to thank her wink
