since i ended up liking it so much,i thought i'd post that info up in case someone else was "sitting on the fence" like i was on getting one.
if you use a mac instead of a pc i'm pretty sure the codec's needed for editing are already on your system(H.264 MP4 is a apple created codec). that really was the only missing piece of the package. it does not come with any software either,so you have to get the codec's on your own.
I've had my gopro HD cam for about 2 or 3 months now. Thanks for the codecs, I could not get the video's to play with windows media player. I had to watch my video's in quicktime and I hate that damn program.

if you don't already have the windows live movie maker,it's also a free software from Msoft.....i now prefer it to the original movie maker for editing.
I just got my GoPro HD, I was wondering about the mounting and having a strap or something as secondary to ensure it doesn't fall off and also the best place to mount... based on the above reading I'm thinking the bars. On the back end, I have a mac so I hope it plays well with that. I will try to get it mounted soon and take some vids.
I have 2 mounting spots. One on the top of my skid lid, and the other is on top of the front mc brake cover. Works really well and I have my digital camera lanyard as a safety strap.

For mounting it on the front mc are you using the suction cup (as pictured on the 1st page of this thread by another forum member) or something else?
This looks good, I may go with this setup (and a lanyard).
No, the suction cup I use for my truck. I used one of the flat sticky mounts that came with the cam.

The cheapest GoPro HD I have found is $213 shipped: http://www.superbikesupply.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=SBS&Product_Code=camera-gopro-01&Category_Code I recommend a class 6 card, and a 16gb will outlast the battery. The cheapest memory card for class 6, 16gb I have found is from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Patriot-Class-SDHC-Flash-Memory/dp/B000VE4PNS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1267466208&sr=8-1 GoPro forums has said they had excellent luck with quality for Patriot cards. I can confirm that as well. I also bought an extra battery & memory card to switch out on the trails / at a track day.
I had a helmet mount for my track day. Taping off the top of the mount w duct tape before connecting the gopro helped with the vibrations and seal. It worked very well for a quick fix. I had little birds living in my camera lol Chirp, chirp. Anyway, I didn’t tape off the mic. I will do so next time.

Here's the vid from that day too: http://vimeo.com/10601670
Last summer I borrowed a friends POV 1.0 setup and it worked great, although having to deal with the DVR unit and the remote cable got to be a huge pain in the ass the longer the trip went. On the plus side the POV unit has a viewable screen and can take a lot of video on a single 8gig card, although the video quality is just ok. Battery life is exellent and I recorded the whole trip on camera.
The GoPro HD has super video quality and a wider angle lens (I like that aspect since I can get the bars and the horizon in the pic at the same time). Battery life is ok but not great (I have two batts and will charge them up at camp each night from a USB charger off the bike). It takes massive amounts of memmory to record in HD mode, I'll take several cards but won't be able to record the whole trip, instead I'll try and choose the best places to record...ie. Stream crossings, sweet single track, ect ect. I like the compactness of the GoPro and lack of cables ect to mess with. Overall I think it will work great! Here's a short Test video that I took yesterday on my 530 around town.
Ok.......So I get me the GoPro Hero HD and I love it. I ride....I record some neat videos. But I have issues with editing and saving the files after I edit. I'm still running Windows XP. I use a converter to change the raw footage to a Windows Media File. Then edit with Windows Movie Maker. Everything looks great and all. I've gotten the video, soundtrack, titles, and credits like I want. The final cut plays fine within Movie Maker, but wont save.
Just what the hell am I missing here?
It's probably something pretty minor. But I'm starting to feel like .........REALLY FRUSTRATED!
What I did was save one file to WMM (windows moviemaker) just click save, and it'll save it in the moviemaker file automatically. This way, if you decide you want to mess with it at a later date, you can. Then if you want to save it as an actual movie file, click 'save movie' in the drop down list, then click 'save as hi definition.' This will save it in either an AVI file, WMV or MOV (depending on your preference). You can then upload that to YouTube.

Nicely done! Now we can expect lots of RR's from another dedicated rider!
