@wristpin: That could of been the problem if my bike stayed in the garage often...but it doesn't ! It gets out at least once a week but more often gets 2-3 good rides in per week. Battery is supposedly new from last summer (previous owner+ when I bought the bike it only had 300km on it.)

@motokid: yea, I start and stopped it at almost every traffic light but I don'T do much pavement. Just enough to get tho the trails. I might of killed the battery doing so, but I'm not sure I'll ever know. The fan is back on now so that's in the past now.

@ Adaycj: That's a great offer thank you! I might take you up on it in the future, but hopefully not haha!

I'm almost done putting the bike back together and I'll take her out for a good test ride and I'll let you know

Thanks for all the interest and support.

Cheers

Follow up and conclusion

first, thanks to all for the help and the support. I turn to this forum when all else fails. Second, here is the current status:

While I'm unsure if the problem was a bad (shorted) cell in my 12-15 month old battery or a short somewhere that lead the battery to eventual failure, I have now no problems since I installed a new (cheap) battery. Electrical problems are some of the worst and I'm hoping it was just the battery. So far so good. I also fixed my radiator fan blade with black silicone so I'm not switching the bike on and off everytime I stop.

If I discoverd the problem is deeper down the rabbit.s hole i'll let you guys know.

Thanks again

cheers

Right on, glad you figured it out. And fixed your rad fan. Should be good for a while now.

Do yourself a favor, get a battery tender or one like it. Your battery will last a very long time if you do so.

@Peterbuilt: Ya, should be good for a while! I have a battery tender but I left the connector part on my now sold yamaha FZ1... so I'm procrastinating on getting it back fro the buyer (who lives far away). I'll get on it though because in the scheme of things it was more painful to go through my whole debacle than to go get the missing connector for the battery tender. It's always about pain vs pleasure...

@Coop: yup, I can stop that nasty habit. I hate traffic lights anyways and I try to steer clear of them thumb

I'll try and post up some footage of me riding...might give you an idea of why my stuff breaks lol.

Cheers

Battery Tender Jr!!!!!!!!!
I hook mine up every time as soon as I get home.

Two of my bikes have the original batteries that are 3+ years old
and my WR battery is original at 4 years old. All are strong.
I just sold A DRZ 400 with a 4 year old original battery in it......... battery like new.

I'm sold on them.
