the perfect trail bike?

I know its been discussed forever...but here is the question again.
I'm thinking mostly single track trails, with a few sand pits/tracks to visit on a regular basis. Wooded/ATV trails being very common.
Realizing I cant follow all ATV trails.
If you had to find a used bike, that would be perfect for your trail riding, and...what would it be?

Anywho, I want alot of bikes, but the perfect trail bike would be best....and thanks in advance...

I'm thinking i would want a KDX200/220.
But then again maybe them 300cc 2 smokes...
Anywho, I compare them all to my wrr...which I only wish was lighter...

I have had a lot of dirt bikes over the last 32 years I have been riding. I can honestly say the 2003 KDX200 I had was about the best woods bike I've ever had. It's not high strung like a KTM and the suspension is old tech, but I loved that bike.

Yay the KDX is just a good all around bike,on my second 03 and will not part with this one. Now the next to the barn will be a KTM 200 or 300 xc/w. Not a whole lot of other bikes that can do it all and go home only for a bath. I must say the wr450 has me looking,just not a fan of the fourstroke off road.

Well, I did go and buy another used trail bike at the end of July:



2002 WR-250F.
The original owner didn't ride it much.

Since this pic was taken, it now has a legit CT. license plate on the back so I can legally ride my state forest trail loop, and it also has gained an FMF Powerbomb head pipe and matching Q4 muffler.

Other than servicing and setting-up the suspension to my liking and uncorking the airbox inlet, exhaust, and carb jetting, it's stock.
The bike works very well.
The suspension is great and the bike has a very stable and sure-footed feel to it, as well as feeling light and nimble.

Kick start only with a matching manual decompressor lever on the handlebar (starts very easily).
3.1 gallon fuel tank.
Amazing little engine that just keeps pulling as long as the throttle is open, and the power is very smooth and easy to manage.

I also used to ride a 2009 WR-250F (another great bike) which had an aluminum frame and I actually prefer the feel of the 2002 model with the old-fashioned steel frame.

This has to be some kind of perfect....?...at least very specific.

I would love one...alongside my wrr.

165 lbs, 280 2T...sounds like fun
