Can somebody explain the origins and whatnot of the word?

I've seen it a few times and it's such a great word.....I just have to ask exactly where it came from.

If I'm to guess i a sudo-edumacated way I'd have to say it means "tricked out".
Modified in a good way.

To me, farkled has always meant F***ed up in some way, like the smaller gas tanks on some Californian versions of bikes. Though I believe it is more commonly used as a term to describe add ons to a bike that for the most part don't do much other than look good and are expensive

I read somewhere that it was originally supposedly coined by a Gold Wing guy; wouldn't know.
