In this thread I will post pictures and info on any mods i do to my 2008 X. When trying to decide on what performance mods I feel I need to do I always wanted videos of acceleration before/afters. I plan on doing that with all my performance add ons in this thread. When I got the bike it had Pro Taper Big bars, Yamalink lowering, and 3,400 miles. Since then I have installed Moose hand guards and a bar end mirror. Today I replaced my stock 13/42 setup with a 13/48 and Speedodrd setup. I took a video before and after to show you guys the acceleration gain. Before I could clutch up in first gear sitting down and could do a stand up with a lot of effort and clutch in second. Nothing in 3rd unless it was barely off the ground and assist from a bump in the road.. dddog This wasn't cutting it for me and I don't have cash for an exhaust and tuner at the moment. Now it comes straight up in first while sitting with clutch. Second gear same thing sitting and clutch. Third I can get it up while standing with clutch assist WAY easier than stock in second. I haven't had it on the freeway and I don't travel on the X that often on the freeway (10 miles or less) but I think it will be fine. Only have 10 or so minutes on the bike after install but bottom end feels significantly better, wheelies 100% better, and feels faster all together. Bang for the buck with this mod! bannana

0-60 for me seemed to be around 9+/- seconds in stock form. After the sprocket it seemed to be around a second faster 0-60. I've had this bike for under a month so i'm sure I could have gotten better #'s with more seat time. Stock on the first video you can hear and see the bike hesitate drastically when the clutch is dropped. After the sprocket was installed you can see and hear a huge improvement with a clutch drop acceleration. Again with the new setup I had literally 5 minutes ride time before doing the acceleration with the new sprocket. With more time on the bike and adjusting where to shift in the powerband i'm sure I could have done much better.

Ok so i took the bike out for a longer test period and I will now start saving for a pipe and programer.. It still goes 84-85 for top speed and I don't feel bad going 70 on the interstate for 10 miles or so. It feels like i can get the front wheel up fine but theres no power to keep it there. I'll probably start practicing wheelies with my left foot on the rear peg to help get to and stay at the balance point easier.

Besides wheelies the gearing is still a lot better around town and the sound output of the stock exhaust is nice. To a cop it looks like your going a lot faster when they hear you instead of just see you. I will gladly sacrifice that for more power out of this little bike.

Mods Done Last Week
Airbox flapper removed
Air box door removed.. WOW!
Exup disabled
Spark Arrestor Removed
FMF EFI Controller installed
Number plates, hand guards, and exhaust shields painted gloss black.

I went to check the AIS and the PO had removed it already. I then decided to check the airbox flapper and it had been disabled but NOT screwed down or glued so I decided I wanted it gone all the way. I took a pry bar and twisted it in a clockwise and counter clockwise motion and the flapper along with the internal junk that restricts air fell into the airbox! cheers I then installed the dynojet exup bypass and removed all the exup junk. During all this I was painting my number plates, exhaust shields, and hand guards with Krylon Fusion gloss black. I was very impressed with this paint. It stuck to the plastic great and was very easy to work with.

My FMF EFI tuner came in Friday so I installed and played with that until Midnight! Part way through the night I got curious about the air box door as well as the SA and removed both! I have read numerous times that people have installed the programmer without an exhaust and recorded little to no gain. I have to disagree. My throttle resonse is WAY up and I can clutch up third with very little effort. In first and second gear I kick the back end out by just opening to WOT!  beavis

Saturday I decided to ride in the desert and got home with a flat  Rolling Eyes BUT this gave me an excuse to take off the dual sport tires and replace them with Battlax tires so I switched those out on Sunday and enjoyed the new handling for the day.
With the SA removed it is almost annoying at times so i'm not sure how long that will stay removed.

I'll post a video for acceleration gains. I'll have to do it with my phone again as I spent my GoPro money on go fast parts! Rode the bike to work this morning and all I could do was think man this thing is much faster. The exhaust has a weird note with the SA removed so I will probably modify the catalytic converter and put the SA back on.

As of right not My settings are as follows.. 2-4-.5-8-2.5-1
Pulls strong and this is what i ended up with after fooling around with it all weekend. I only have the 5th setting set to 2.5 instead of 1 to see if I really feel a difference of when the fuel turns on.

I received my slip on FMF Powercore 4 yesterday and installed it after work. Within 45 minutes (or less) I was out riding already. At FIRST I was very disappointed with the performance and wondered how ANYONE could think this exhaust was loud. I decided to take out the spark arrestor and then understood. The PO (I bought the pipe used) put in a more restrictive SA to help with the loudness of this pipe. He sent me the original FMF SA and the quieter one was already installed. After removing the SA the bike then woke up and was definitely LOUD... lol! The SA made the noise very acceptable but restricted the power too much for me. I might reinstall it for certain rides but will mainly commute with the original FMF SA. No SA will be for when I go to the track or am causing a ruckus... The pipe did not come with FMF's adapter for the stock header so the factory clamp and "adapter" worked perfectly to my surprise!

I had to drill the tac weld on the factory clamp to free it. Here is the adapter and clamp

Here's a picture of the pipe installed with factory hardware

Final product... I know there are hundreds of R/X's with this pipe but I am still proud  Very happy

Changing setting now to try
3-5-.5-8-6-4 since i've heard good thing about this
