Tom & i met in clarkdale for an
exploratory ride. We were checking on a powerline road up to the rim
from the verde valley. The only other way up on the west side is off
the perkinsville road toward williams. I had seen this road a couple
of years ago, & we thought we'd take a closer look... plus Tom
needed to take his new wr out on it's maiden voyage.

We crossed the verde river at tuzugoot, went down sycamore pass road & started climbing.

We
had a short staredown with this guy.. he was on the side of the road,
but i didn't feel like passing until he gave way a bit more.

The riders: Me & Tom.

This was where we stopped for a hearty lunch.. mild day ride.. central az ride with 2 wr's! 342500 Tom had a powerbar & i had a banana...

Here's
the road we wanted.. it's not on my citinav 2010 map, probably because
it's closed to 4 wheel motorized vehicles.. that's right. 2 wheels are
ok!

This is a really steep road.. loose rock, off camber.. sharp switchbacks.. lovely!

Tom
had an electrical problem.. lost his headlight & blinkers.. so we
decided we didn't have time to go up to williams this day. We'll go up
in a week or so & test the climb. I'm planning on adding this to
the grand canyon ride we do in early summer.. if it goes through, &
it looks like it does.

Tom
backtracked through sycamore pass road back to jerome & prescott,
while i turned off before clarkdale & headed back toward sedona.

A
very short ride, but fun & informative. Tom's new wr is great!
His has the Fuel programmer, pipe & exhaust.. much more responsive
than my stocker.

Thanks for sharing. Finding new roads is what dirtbiking is all about IMHO. This may be only me but I love riding dirbikes for the sense of exploration and the exhilaration of going to new to me places, now combine that with the challenge and fun of riding a motorcycle and you have a winner. I used to live in NE AZ close to four corners and it was my goal to know every road and nook and cranny around the Chuska Mountains, Cedar Mesa, etc so I had a lifetime of exploration to do. Well 8 years ago I moved to SC and found that most people with dirtbikes pay money to ride in short 5 or 6 mile circles with 100's of other people including ATV'ers. Needless to say, for me, there is no joy in that type of riding.

it turned out to be a blown fuse.. one by the rad overflow, but neither of us knew where that was.. we had to look it up when we got home. ..still getting to know the little wr.

Lukachuki:
You'll just have to take a trip out west & go on a ride! Maybe sometime next year when you get your new wr, you can bring it out for a good desert ride..

Tom & i & maybe a couple of others are going up that mountain next week.. we'll head up to williams for lunch, then come back either through jerome or sedona.

Now that is an idea that i like. I was in Strawberry for a week or so a year ago and really longing to have something to ride, but alas I didn't as we where on family vacation.

I could show you some of the most amazing parts of the Rez sometime as well. It is mindblowingly beautiful in spots.
