I just bought the harbor right face shield...and am about to do the same thing with it. The only thing now is i need to buy some Velcro. Where did you guys get it at? I am going to head to wally world tomorrow and see if i can find anything. There is a product that is light years better than velcro. I have been using it for years on headlight protectors and anything else that needs to stay in place under any conditions - yet be removable. I ts 3M Dual Lock reclosable system. Fastens to itself. Hell for stout. Not cheap but a little goes a long way. The one place to buy a small amount is BoatersWorld.com. A small package will do several windsheilds. I only 3 small pieces on my HF sheild on the WR. Just passing along a great product.......no interest in the Co. Ron in Smithville tx

| The harbor freight windshield is a huge waste of time and money IMO. I couldn't tell a bit of difference at highway speed. Looks like I'm gonna have to pony up for a real windshield. | |

| I just pulled out a bunch of odds and ends parts I had packed away over the years and found the original shield from a 2003 Yamaha FZ1 ... it seems to be just about the right shape and size that I was thinking of ... a little bigger than the Harbor Freight model, but not too big. Now I just need to find a nice way to mount it. It needs a little more clearance than velcro would give it. I am looking at some solutions from advrider and I have found some mounts that might work, but they are $54. I will keep looking. | |

HUGE waste of time/money?? Mine was about $5 in parts and 10 minutes to build - and everyone who's ridden the bike at speed has commented on how well the Harbor Freight shield works. But, everyone has their own preferences, glad you at least tried it out! Also, obviously your height or helmet type could be a factor in how the wind hits you differently from others who've tried this mod. FWIW - again, my favorite thing about the HF shield is that it is d@mn near indestructable...

FWIW - again, my favorite thing about the HF shield is that it is d@mn near indestructable... Ok, maybe I exaggerated a little bit, but the velcro was twice as expensive as the shield ($3 on sale), so all told its about $10 I'm over 6'2" with boots on, so maybe I'm a little tall for it. Trust me, it did nothing, IMO. I always had visions of the velcro letting go and the shield flying up and chopping my head off as well.

| I notice a huge difference at speeds on mine.. ran it out today and still really noticed no fighting the wind as much and still recommend it. I wear a Shoei Hornet DS and it helps at speeds a lot.. !! awesome! | |

| Inmate GsVs in another thread showed a Turbo City bracket with a Madstad windscreen and a Madstad robo-bracket. The robo-bracket allows a lot of adjustability up and down as well as for angle. I used a slightly different windscreen than GsVs did, but otherwise it's his idea. Thanks to GsVs! One inmate in this thread commented that a windshield sounded like a good idea but we would need another cylinder to push it through the wind. Ahem. Most decent designed windscreens slice through the wind a lot more easily than say... a rider with a bunch of rough ballistics nylon clothing on (flaps, pockets, zippers), etc. I find my bike to be noticeably more responsive above 65 mph with the Spyder windscreen in place. In the attached photo, it's slid all the way down and back. So if I opt for more wind protection at some point in the future, I may in fact give up some of the responsiveness gains. But for now, all indications are that I've REDUCED wind drag just as one should expect. Even with the WS all the way down and back, it's reduced buffeting a lot and kept me warm on an hour long ride tonight in 29 degree (Fahrenheit) weather. BigFeet |

Thanks for the compliment. I just built it about a year ago - 870 sf. It's a good thing it's not insulated or I'd pretty much be living out there! No doubt, it ain't much compared to Malibu, but here's what the views are like with the door open.. And there's this cut going from the top of my driveway loop.. Truth in advertising, though. The residential structure is an 1100 sf p.o.s., but whaddya' expect for nothin'? I got it dirt cheap as a VA foreclosure. Good thing I bought the title insurance seeing the recent foreclosure snafu that was carefully fabricated, eh? Yikes. Scary pitfall, that. Thread related: Some more views above of the windshield. Yeah, that's weak. -feet |

| I'm thinking about a windshield for my new bike! I tried searching for this one here but didn't really score. Any ideas about this one? Not adjustable, but I don't think that would bother me. Do you think it might fit over the headlight fairing?
Thanks very much!

| Go back to page 1 of this thread. I'm thinking the one you're considering is a lot like the Slipstreamer BPG tried. You could always go the Harbor Freight route while you're pondering the other options.

Hey Bash3r, I ride a Hornet also and boy it needs some serious help on this bike at speed. Thing wants take off on me and I dare not turn my head sideways. When ever I ride with the shield up the damm thing whistles. I'm starting to lose my love affair with the helmet. I'll try the Harbor Frieght thing and hope it helps.

Good luck.. it's definitely different for everyone. on my WR with my harbor freight mod and Shoei Hornet I don't experience buffeting like I do on my Versys with my EXO-400. I'm usually running 10mph faster on my V that the WR but it's just evidence that the WR can run the highway comfortably for both bike and rider. I also run Cycra handguards and a Safari tank which its all thrown in the mix.. but I find it still very comfortable. I'm sure running the EXO-400 would probably be even smoother than the Hornet, but I really like my Hornet. so comfy and need that visor on the trail..

| I wish I could ride with the visor, but I had to take it off after the first day so I didn.t go airborne at anything over 45 MPH. Does your Hornet whistle riding around town with the shield up? | |
