Question about '08 models Empty
PostSubject: Question about '08 models   Question about '08 models EmptySat Dec 26, 2009 6:44 pm

Hi Folks,

I found a new '08 for $5,200 and I was wondering if there are any problems or quirks with that model that have been worked out since then?

Thanks,
Ken

I haven't heard of any major changes except for colors from one year to the next. Pretty much the same bike since '08.

PostSubject: Re: Question about '08 models   Question about '08 models EmptySat Dec 26, 2009 8:42 pm

The '08's had one minor and one rare major issue. The minor issue was with chain skipping, it was fixed by changing the tension spec and on later models removing a rubber ring around the edge of the sprocket. It is not a problem on bikes with aftermarket sprockets and I never experienced it on mine when stock.

The major issue is fuel pump failure on a small number of early '08's. As far as I know, any/all pumps that failed have been replaced under warranty and VIN's were around 1500. It was likely a bad batch of pumps as I've yet to hear of someone outside a fairly narrow VIN range centered around 1500 or so having a problem.

I've had 16,000+ trouble free miles on mine so far, loving every minute of it.

$5,200 for an 08 seems kinda high to me.

I hope you get plenty of goodies and extras for that price.

I found a used 08 with only 300 miles on it for $4000

It is high. Maybe that's tax, tag, & title too?

I was priced a new '08 today for $5450 otd. I thought that was a good price ? But according to you guys maybe not ?

I found another one about a 6 hour drive away, new '08 for $5,080. I thought that was a low, low price but now after reading this I'm not sure.

It's hard to sort out the price comments on chat forums because many have odd opinions about what is a low price. Some people make up prices and some include tax, processing fees and such. So....I'm trying to sort it out in hopes of buying a new R2.

If you're giving prices for brand new bikes on a Yamaha dealer's showroom floor, that ain't bad at all.
I say that if you want the bike, go with it and enjoy it.

How much lower do you really think you're gonna' get a new one for?
The bike lists for $5,899 before tax and other fees. :)

+1. This past summer my dealer quoted $5400 OTD for a new 08 on his floor & $4500 OTD for a very clean used 08 w/1000 mi on it. So I wouldn't worry about it.

I always try to buy used whenever I can; bikes, accessories, gear, whatever. I've heard this site provides accurate info on new prices:

I bought my X off of E-Bay from a dealer in Ohio. I'm pretty sure they sold it at a loss. The $4500 price I mentioned didn't include tax or title.

We bought her 08 in mid '09 with 175 miles, a transferable YES warranty, a new Thor helmet ($200), a Joe Rocket DS jacket ($175) and a cover for $5K.

Well the bike was $3K, I paid $2K for the equipment. Question about '08 models 810411

I'm in Australia and I got my '08 as a brand spanker in October '08 for $10100 AUD on-road. They also chucked in some renthall 'bars and Dunlop Full trail tyres to replace the crappy Trailwing tyres that come standard. I guess you jst have to shop around and snag the best deal you can....
