I've looked at all the aftermarket footpegs I can find. They all seem to max out at about 90mm wide. I am new to off road riding, so forgive my ignorance, but why has the industry standardized on this dimension? I would like mine wider, more like 5 or 6 inches, since I have rather large feet. I also find the small foot pegs tiring on my feet on long rides. I would think a large peg would be preferable, giving you more support and a larger contact area. I've just about given up finding something close to what I'd like. Any suggestions?? I'll probably try my own garage home made solution.

Do you mean 6 inches long? as in from the front of the bike to the back?
If so, something that long will prevent your foot from being able to properly pivot across the 'peg'.
I don't see how anyone could possibly have feet 6 inches across the arches. But if that is actually the case, you've bought the wrong bike, wr250r's are for humans.
You may find your feet are tired for a number of unrelated reasons, one of them being improper boots. MX boots are a lot easier on the foot.

No, I'm talking about width, that is from the instep to the outside of the foot. I did find one kind that is 5", but they're $250 a pair, a little rich for my blood.

I think the pegs are short - instep to outside of foot - to keep the profile small. You don't want to be grabbing trees etc. with the pegs. I think also, a longer peg would make shifting gears more difficult.

I've found that if everyone is doing something a certain way there is usually a good reason.

A longer peg would also mean a lot more leverage on the attachment bracket / screw. If you a 200 kg dude, and you are putting all your weight on one peg, AND on top of that on the outer edge of a 6" peg, those are some huge forces compared to a standard length peg.

All my MC boots have very stiff soles, especially the arches. This makes a platform for the foot and I don't feel the footpegs digging in to the bottom of my foot. Riding in soft boots or sneakers would get uncomfortable fast. I haven't seen any street type pegs or floorboards offered for the WRR

Check out zip-ty footpeg extensions at ziptyracing.com if you want huge pegs.
I dont think they have ones for the WRR, they only seam to make them for huge adventure bikes but making a set from another bike fit should be easy.

Getting longer pegs (side to side) especially increases your profile in narrow but deep ruts.
