Hi guys,

Unfortunate first post.

I had a small incident last night and i dropped my 08 wr250x. Now without going into details of the event, the water pump housing cracked. At first inspection the impeller looked OK (mind you it was at night). Now in the daylight and with the casing off, I've discovered the impeller has lost a blade.

Now Ive searched around but have been unable to find any instructions on replacing the impeller.
My main questions are:
Does anyone know of any instructions or similar on dismantling the water pump?
Can i Just replace the housing, gasket/oring, and the impeller or are there other parts needed?
Is there any after market parts recommended over OEM in this situation? (pump, casing, water pump guard?)

Ill get pics later once i get the bike home from my mates house.

Thanks,
Mark

The water pump on your bike comes apart in a similar fashion as other 250cc singles:

You need to remove the pump cover and the right-hand side engine cover and remove a circlip from the impeller shaft on the inside, and then pull the shaft out.
The impeller and shaft are one piece.
You'll need to replace the impeller shaft, the seal for the shaft, your cracked pump cover, and the gaskets.
I'd replace the circlip, too.

It's not that big of a job, just daunting if you've never done it before.
Don't know of any aftermarket parts for the job, but it doesn't matter because a rock can crack those just as well. :)
A skid plate if you don't already have one will offer some coverage, but even that is no 100% sure bet.

Somewhere around these forums, there's a download for the Service Manual. :)

Mercy! Ouch, bigtime. Here's the thread for the service manual:

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

I don't see engine sliders in that pick.

Touché

What are they like compared to bash plates for high speed crashes (high/lowsides)?
