She's mine - she made me bleed Empty

Changed my oil today. My local stealership had the filter. I debated long and hard over the oil choice and decided to go with Amsoil 20/50.

Any way....some pics... Very happy

Gotta watch that rear break lever. It's got teeth.

I was really surprised at how long it took me to get the oil filter cover torqued to 10 Nm.
I guess that is compressing the rubber gaskets on the filter into place?

So tell me about the oil bleed bolt.

Is it necessary to spludge oil out onto the back of my cylinder? Or is using the sight glass on the case good enough?

I've never had a bleed bolt for oil on any motorcycle in the past.
Seems to me just being careful not to over fill the oil and using the sight glass should be good enough.

What am I risking by not using the bleed bolt?

I never bothered with the bleed bolt. It certainly won't hurt it any not using it; it's more there to release pressure which I haven't really found yet. dunno I drained the oil, pulled the filter, cleaned it up, slapped a new one in and umped in the oil and it runs perfectly with no leaks.

Thank you. I've owned numerous motorcycles since 1985 and never once did any bike have an oil bleed screw.

Just seems like it's not needed for the most part.

Not needed unless you suspect you have no oil flow :)

Thanks.

Is this a common problem with dirt bikes or something?

What other motorcycles have a bleed screw like this?

Why would Yamaha put such a thing on the WR's?

No it is just an "oil check bolt". If you start it and loosen the oil check bolt you should see oil seep while under pressure. If you don't see oil come out shut the engine off at once because the oil is not circulatating and you have serious issues :)

The only time I would open up the bleeder bolt is if the motor was totally dry of oil after a rebuild to allow the oil to possibly circulate a little bit faster.
