| I just bought a brand new 2014 wr250r. Does anyone know what the funny smell is ? Will it go away and how soon? The guys at the shop told me it's the stuff the spray it with to ship it to protect it from the elements. Many input would help | |

| it's perfectly normal that a new bike smells, just like the interior of a new car. In the production process of a lot of polymers (plastics) they use solvents and also cleaning and protecting agents, which release their excess of chemicals. This process is quite short for bikes, the engine heats up and the wind rapidly does the rest. Enjoy your bike and drive safely. Paul | |

| Nobody knows, usually after the running-in period (say 2000 km or less than...km). Just trust your sense of smell. Paul | |

| Find a place that looks like this: Ride back and forth until you look like this: Wash bike, then wash yourself, then tell us what you smell. _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

| The mud I end up cooking on my bike always smells like ass, or maybe that's just me. Now that I think of it, I smell the smell even when I don't go through mud. never mind.... | |

| I know this seems like a dumb question but it's serious. I've never owned a bike before and I smell that smell everytime I ride if course it still only has lol 16miles on it . So when will it wear off ? | |

At 46.788 miles or 78 minutes and 33 seconds --- whichever comes first. But don't forget to factor in humidity. There's a chart somewhere for that, try the search button.

| What do you do when you smell???? If you think your bike smells funny ---- wash it. Use a mild solution of Dawn dish detergent and sponge down all the plastic parts and rinse them off. Then use some Simple Green and a tooth brush to work around the engine a bit and clean that off. Wheels, spokes, tires, .....the whole thing. Make sure you rinse bike off very well, but be gentle about it. Then dry the bike immediately. Start bike and let her idle for a few minutes and/or ride her around the neighborhood once or twice. Be careful not to spray hard streams of water places, but generally just wash your motorcycle. It's a great way to get to know your new toy. _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

| Don't think I've ever heard anyone asking about a new bike smell. As long as it doesn't smell like something burning (although one of my Ducati's long ago always smelled burnt) it's shouldn't be anything to worry about. Might take more than the 16 whole miles you have on the bike for it to go away.
So what exactly does it smell like? Just curious.

| It's probably what is called cosmoline, an anti-corrosion spray applied to the bike before it is shipped out to dealers. | |

Have you given your motorcycle a bath???? Washed it? Cleaned it? Hosed it off? Have you done anything at all to try to get rid of the smell????? - motokid wrote:

| Mine only has 1,300 miles on it and that smell is almost totally gone. I know exactly what you're talking about but dude, you have 16 miles on the bike. That would be like expecting a new car smell to go away immediately. Just hang tight, it'll go away. Maybe try not to fixate on the smell but rather on how fun the bike is to ride? | |

| But for the record I know exactly what smell you're talking about, and is does closely resemble cosmoline. My brother and I bought brand new WRs on the same day and both of then had that smell. It'll burn off. But it's gonna take a lot more than 40 miles. | |
