| Hi all, this is my first post on this forum!
I am considering switching bikes (currently have a Yamaha FJ-09) and have been eyeing the WR250X. I think I can deal with the fact that the WR has about 90 hp less than my current bike, but what I really am concerned about is the engine longevity on this bike. I ride about 25k miles a year, all street. It's mostly highway commuting or riding in the hills, but I do go on longer rides for up to 1000 miles in a weekend. Barring my own discomfort, how would the bike fair? I see that valve checks are every 26k miles, but if I change my oil every 3k, can I expect 40-50k+ out of this bike?
On reddit I saw a post that someone has 68k on their WR250X which makes me feel better, but I'm still kind of scared.... The bike I'm looking at has 9k miles on it so far.
Thanks for any replies!

Thanks for any replies! The bike seems to be very reliable overall. That being said, I think you would be making a mistake using it for what you describe, especially coming off an FJ-09! I own an FZ-09 and a WR and I love them both but the WR is not something I would even remotely consider putting 25K a year on, let alone a 1k mile weekend!. Not because of reliability per se but more because of the power/comfort factor. Good luck!

| As CRFan says, the bike will be capable to do the miles. but will you?
From time to time I put 600 miles on it in a single day. But doing somethng like that 2 days in a row will be a real pain (and I consider my behind pretty tough). For me the limit of enjoyability is about 350 miles a day. That I can do for several days in a row.
The X sounds like it would fit for only half of your needs. For the twisties in the hills and even the 1k weekend trips (with a better seat, I got stock) it would work great. For the occasional long highway stint, or the regular short highway stint (my commute to work is about 7 miles) it also works well. But for regular long highway stints I really would be looking at a different bike. The engine will be able to do it, but at what cost to your comfort, fun, enjoyment? I would try to keep both bikes if I were you. The FJ09 for highway commuting, the X for weekend fun in the hills.

| The bike will handle it, but it seems like the wrong bike for the job. | |

| Thanks for the replies! Unfortunately I'm not a smart person and got a WRX to replace my FJ-09 anyways.
I ended up test riding one and loved it so much that I knew I had to have one. Plus, I lowsided the FJ on a canyon road after test riding a WRX. Ended up getting an '09 WRX with 1330 miles on it and have been loving it ever since!

The stock WR seat is punishingly uncomfortable. -morgan

| I have over 37k miles on my WRR and it is still going strong. My goal is to get at least 50k miles, and I am confident that I will get there.. I rev the shit out of the motor. I change the oil about every 1 k miles. I hope this helps | |
