PostSubject: Rear shock rebound question   Rear shock rebound question EmptyFri Dec 02, 2016 10:14 pm

Hi,

I'm a newbie to the WR250R. I just picked up a 2014 with 7k miles on it and I have a few questions.

1. What should I do maintenance wise?

2. I was adjusting sag and setting damping to stock. I noticed that on the rear shock rebound adjuster it was all the way in (CW) I started clicking it out and wanted to see how far it goes. It went past 25 clicks (the max) without any resistance, all the way to 62 clicks! Did a previous owner do some damage? How do I tell if the rebound is working?

This bike was owned by a shorter person. It is all the way lowered on the stock height adjustment and has a lowered seat. I can put my feet flat on the ground with a slight bend in the knees. My inseem is 33".

Thanks,

Chris

The Soqi (basically a Yamaha house brand) shock is pretty crappy right off the showroom floor. Dampening is extremely lacking--which is why the PO adjusted it all the way in--I bet it is still not enough. Plenty of folks around here open their shocks for rebuild to find little oil.

Don't plan on the clicker doing much of anything to your rebound even if functioning "properly". Ride it & if you like it leave it alone. If you don't have the shock rebuilt.

Theres no bike-specifik thing to maintain.

I always change oil and filter, oil in forks, and regrease wheelbearings, and all the bearings in the linkage, swingarm ect.

Have a look at the chain and sprockets, see if they are near the end of their life, same with tires.

I also clean and lube every connector, and clean and oil the airfilter.

If the brakefluid is anything but golden, change it. Clean and lube the cables.

You now know everything is right, and know your way around the bike.

This bike is known for being fairly reliable so there isn't much specific to it. I'd add to check your steering stem. My 2015 had plenty of grease on it but others have had problems that resulted in bunk bearings and gouged races needing replaced. Seems the suspension issue options are racetech gold valves, diy or local suspension shop, or sending it to go race. Your bike, your decision, but I wanna send mine to travis at go race... He's on the forum and very experienced with the wrr suspension... check out a testing - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJDx6gx6pCc
