Hey all,
Been riding, buying, building, trading Harleys for a few 20 years now, so I understand a thing or two. Fairly stumped on this one.
My kid recently bought another wr250r. Was tinkering with it, took it out for a quick road test and a wheelie. Unfortunately the police don't like that. Not usually a big deal, but they said his new bike was stolen. Apparently this is based on the five VIN numbers that are visible. (Digits are 00377) All the other numbers are illegible. Ran the VINs on everything else in his garage while they were at it. GRRRR. Spoke with Yamaha production, they say the last SIX numbers are unique to a particular model. Of course all 17 would be best for verification, but they would need at least six. It's a 2008. Anyone have any knowledge on this? We have asked the police for correlation of engine number, but they have informed us this is based on the VIN only?!? Can someone give me a breakdown of exactly what the last six digits indicate?
Kids been sitting in jail since February 22nd. Looks like he will go to prison if we can't get some help with this. Maybe call Yamaha legal department?
Thanx
Kat
