Does engine need to be removed from bike before head removal??

No. The most difficult part is removing the valve cover, once that is done, there's plenty of room to remove camshafts and then head.

Make sure you clean the area above thoroughly to avoid any debris falling into the engine.

It's easier to get off than putting it back on wink

The last time I took the upper engine cradle mount loose and tilted the engine down to gain a little more clearance.
