| Hello everyone! New and enthusiastic WR owner from just north of Birmingham Alabama here. Brought home my new 2010 WR250R yesterday. Due to weather, only ridden about 10 miles so far. I like it. Just ordered Flatland Racing skid plate, Rox 2" risers, axle blocks, Acerbis hand guards and Pro Moto Billet tail rack. Mounted up my Wolfman Enduro tank bag off my recently totaled Dakar and put some temporary bar risers off it as well until the Rox stuff comes in. Next up probably a Giant Loop system to carry my camping stuff. Anyone with experience with the Giant Loop stuff? Which one works best with the WR? I was really glad to find this forum. Lots of useful info here | |

| Hey, sharp looking bike. I like the new suspension colour for the 2010 model. I also got my bike recently, however it will be a few months before I can take it for a spin (I'm in the Great White North). I hope your Dakar did not come to a bad end with you on it. I always hate a horror story. Anyway, sounds like you are going to have allot of fun with the WR. Welcome! CentralScrutinizer | |

I was very lucky to walk away with only a few bruises when rear-ended a month ago by an SUV. I was catapulted forward as the Dakar was folded like breaking a lobster's back and after flying a ways I came down on my BMW Rallye 2 Pro suit and didn't spill a drop of blood. Ass has been sore for a month and likely will take a few more weeks to be completely healed up, but I was VERY lucky. ATGATT works!

| Welcome to the pack! The Wolfman bags fit the R² very well too. You can fit a lot of stuff in those things. _________________ A wolf's voice echoed down the mountain 'Share the bounty of the hunt with your brothers and sisters, and forever be strong and free.' | |

| GSBS is that you?
If you have not seen it yet, you should consider going to the Scream'n Beaver rally. It looks like quite a few people from Alabamer will be there. I know I will on my WR250R.

| Welcome, You are going to have a blast on that bike. Once you get used to it, definitely good through the SWEET MODS section and learn from the others. My bike is soooo much better with the mods. SO CAL | |

| I have the original "Giant Loop" bag which I think is now updated and called the Coyote and it is perfect. Actually thinking about selling mine and buying the Coyote to get the newer features. I've seen pics of the Great Basin bag on the WRR and it's just too big in my opinion.

| I like the gold forks. I wish they would have done that since 08! It adds some very nice contrast to the silver. Welcome | |

Jeremy Good to hear from a WR owner using the GL system. Haven't heard any knocks on it yet. Mine should be in later today. I got the yellow for more visibility, less heat absorbed in summer and because my 18-year-old fashionista daughter told me - "Daddy, you gotta get something gold in the back to balance those forks in the front." I did a lot of camping on the Dakar - averaging three nights a month over the past three years. During that time I completed a motorcycling guide book for Alabama (the first one done) that is now in production and I also do a monthly magazine piece for an in-state magazine called "Alabama Motorcycle Diaries," in which I go somewhere each month and write about an out-of-the-way or unusual person or place. More often than not I'm camping for a night on the magazine pieces, depending on how far away they are. So, I'll be offering an in-depth review of the Giant Loop stuff as it will be used a lot.

| Wow, that sounds like a neat job, Dave! Maybe they'll let you travel up here to Canuckistan and get to see the back country here. Camping is one thing I don't get to do a lot of anymore since working for forestry. Summers are my busy times. _________________ A wolf's voice echoed down the mountain 'Share the bounty of the hunt with your brothers and sisters, and forever be strong and free.' | |

| Would anyone recommend the 2010 WR250R as a good dual-purpose bike to start out on? It would be my first full-time motorcycle. I'm interested in commuting short distances on it for work, short touring around NM and off-road trail use. Other dual-purpose bikes I've looked at (KLX250S, CRF230L, etc.) all seem pretty weak in comparison. But, then again, it's my first motorcycle. know it's only a 250, but it seems like this thing really rips. Is it too much? Just enough? Thoughts, comments?? | |

How do you get rear ended and go forward? I assume the SUV's front bumber hit your rear tire. The bike goes forward but you go backwards . I would think??

| Hi David: You picked a good one Regarding the GiantLoop Gear, I have the HiViz Yellow Fandango tank bag (best in the business imho) and the HiViz Great Basin. While the GreatBasin looks a bit oversized on the WR, it can haul a lot of stuff!!! 70L worth and since you have recently survived an accident with a non-conformist cage of the largest variety, there have been three instances that I know of including a sideswipe where GiantLoop GreatBasin allowed its owner to escape with nothing more than a scare after being bounced off a cage at speed. The two riders that did go down didn't even scratch their plastics thanks to the GreatBasin back there! And the bags came back with nothing more than some road grime smeared along the sides. GiantLoop’s HiViz is a great color and I do not believe anybody makes bags as tough and useful as the owners behind the company who do ride some seriously long off-road distances on big dual sports when they are not busy packaging their excellent GiantLoop Gear. GreatBasin GiantLoop and Fandango Tank Bag on the 2010 WR250X. Before installing any farkles including the Pro MotoBillet rack that is on her now, I had a business meeting in Elkhart Lake, WI. The Giant Loop GreatBasin as shown allowed me to pack my dress clothes and gear for the few days and after 10-minutes on the road, I did not even know it was there. In additon, it can be strapped onto just about anything without the need for top or sideracks! DesertRider, I am a part time rider and have been for over 40-years. While the X is a bit taller than the other 250's, the power is not so overwhelming that you would have to worry about lifting the front end (unless you want to). After a few days getting used to the WR’s sharp throttle tip-in , you will be glad you own one. The KLX is the current super bargain machine in the 250 group while the CRF230L is the super fuel miser. That said, the WR has so much more going for it and if you need to lower it a touch, an inch is available with the turn of the wrench. I have read in the WR forums that a female rider has dropped hers 5 inches in total with the suspension mod, a lowering link, dropping the forks, and removing some foam at the front of the seat.
