- Hi, I got question about the tire tube, what size do I need? is 70/100x17 ok?
Also, do I need rim lock for this? ( what size,? they have 1.40/1.60", 1.85", 2.15") I'm gonna use OEM wheels and 5.10-17 rear and 4.60-17 front shinko 244 tires
could be silly questions but I'm still learing about this stuff :) I used the old tubes and no rim locks. I don't think there is anyway that the tires would slip on the rim. I think you could run no air and not have problems. I've had as little as 5 lbs in them in the dirt and on the street. You probably couldn't tell if you had a flat without checking the pressure.

| I think my first set said something like that.. 'golden showers tires' or such.. J/K..
I used the original tubes with the first set. When i got the second, i splurged & bought new tubes.. they were in the range that they covered both wheels. I've not used rimlocks, & don't see the need with this bike. I don't think the power to the rear wheel is enough to spin the tire on the rim, especially with the way the bead sticks.
I went to 14/46 when i got new sprockets & chains, but the alloy rear did not last long.. less than 1k miles. So i got a steel rear & had to settle for a 44. It 's not too high for me & cruises on the highway very nicely.
I had the forks lowered about 7/8" for the first set & it handled fine. When i had to replace fork seals a while back, i put it at about 1/2". I can't tell any difference in handling.
I'm still very happy with the performance of these tires. It makes the x into a capable dirt machine, which was what i wanted, without sacrificing pavement handling. They last a long time, & are cheap. ..can't ask for a better combination.

| Rydnseek, JT makes a nice 46 steel spoket which I run with a 13 front. Do you think 244 will be significantly higher then Distanzias ? I'm going to have to get a new set soon and would like to go to 244's but would not like the bike to be any higher then it is now. | |

| I swapped out my front sprocket for a 12 tooth, and found out the PO had installed a 14 tooth Renthal front sprocket... now I am super disappointed on the highway haha, maybe I will go back to the 14, and slap on a 46 rear. I went out and played in a muddy dirty field by my house yesterday, and it felt great even in thick mud with these tires! | |

I don't know about the distanzias, but the shinkos are higher than the stock bridgestones. I think it raised mine up about 1/2".

hahaha oh well Well, if we start riding together, and people start to notice our tires we'll have some explaining to do! A good friend and riding buddy used to joke around and call me "Golden Boy" just to give me crap sometimes... So he and I are mounting my brand new Shinko's on my X and all the sudden he just busts up laughing to the point of nearly hyperventilating.... "No E'FFIN way are you riding on Golden Boy tires!!!" I'm guessing I will never shake that nickname now. Of course, to celebrate newly mounted knobbies...we went on a ride. He's ridden over 25 years (mostly Harley and never on dirt with his daily driver DR650) and never been down. Apparently the "Golden Boys" are the ticket, I was right side up all day and he had a nasty get off right resulting in a chest and fist full of cactus. ...Karma...served up Golden Boy style

| ok, i had to go check.. sure enough, the front 4.60 says 'Golden Boy' Trail Tire across the sidewall. The back 5.10 only says 'Shinko 244 Trail Tire' So if you truly wanted to be golden, you would need to get the 460's for both front & back. I don't think the 510's will work on the front, so that's not an option.
But let's not take the 'golden boy' image too far.. we can agree that these tires are really for sissies.. fine.. or we can say that we get to keep more of our 'gold' since they don't cost an arm & a leg. But saying they make you a better, more aggressive rider might be pushing it. Or saying these tires make you a 'golden boy' sounds a bit over the top. But kudos to shinko for putting a cool, but questionable, name on their tire.

| Just an update regarding these tires... I have been riding these on the street pretty aggressively for the past 900 miles and I really like them... I mean with 28 lbs front and rear they feel great in high speed corners and I can even get them to back in almost as good as a conti or pilot power... relieve about 10-12 lbs of pressure and theyve been great off the pavement on loose trails... can't wait to get out on some technical singletrack and make my buddies riding full on dirtbikes sad.... thumbs up from me! I will still get a second set of wheels eventually but I do not feel as pressured to do so now. | |

| That looks badass I ran these on my G450X for mostly street riding and was really impressed with the level of feedback. - jpatt wrote:

| 3" Shinko on a 3" rim from a klx250SF. Does anyone see a problem with running one now? I was VERY close to ordering this along with a 5.10 rear a few weeks ago. My brother in law has a KLX250SF and looking up tires that fit for him. I found these pics. | |

You mean limited sidewall contact patch on pavement?... I was considering these as well, but seeing that I'm not so sure...

They pretty much are, just a lot cheaper. I had them on an XL250 I fixed up last year to give to my nephew and they work well. I admit though that I don't see what wildosvt sees to say they are a bad idea. I am sure I am just missing what he is seeing.

| I'm starting to wear out my second set of shinkos.. still great tires for me. I'm getting a 3rd set when these are gone.. Just let those prissy x's, with all their pretty plastic & graphics, go where this one has gone! Yeah, the plastic is scratched. ..and the front tire wore through the fork protectors. And the hand guards are banged up, scratched, & the rims are dirty. Oh, yeah, the skid plate has several horrible dents in it, too. The foot peg is even bent. This bike is a workhorse, not a beauty queen.. | |
