Do you wear a street or dirt helmet while riding your WRR?

Basically, when I rode a WR-250R, if I planned on any off-road riding, I wore my dirt helmet.
Much better airflow to your face with a dirt helmet.

If I planned on street-only riding, I wore my street helmet.
It was a simple plan. :)

One more vote for the AFX Dual Sport Helmet. I love mine.

Mine is a Simpson Super Bandit designed for road racing. I bought it for kart racing and it served me quite well on the track for many years. Unfortunately the WKA said no more Snell '95-rated helmets on the track after the 2004 season so the SB was retired and collected dust for 3-1/2 years before I bought the WR.

Personally I can see no good reason to shell out the cash for a dirt-specific helmet when my $400 SB works so well, but then again it seldom gets brutally hot here on Lake Erie's south shore. If it gets dusty I just close the visor and never had any issues with dust in my eyes.

I wore goggles back in the '70s when open-face helmets were the norm and despite my name I have no desire to go back to wearing them today. I consider the advantages of wearing a road helmet on the road far outweigh the disadvantages of wearing it off-road.

Here is what I use:

Skull EXO 400 - Cost me about $160 at a dealership, can probably find it cheaper online.


Fly Kinetic - Cost me about $99 at a dealership, can probably find it cheaper online.


Thor Enemy Goggles - Cost me about $40 at a dealership, can probably find it cheaper online.


Silk Balaclava - Cost me about $10 at a dealership, can probably find it cheaper online.

I ware a combination of these three things.

For hot weather or dirt riding I wear just the dirt helmet, for just street I wear just the street helmet. If it starts to get cold and I know I'll be doing some dirt riding I'll wear the dirt helmet with the balaclava. If I'm just doing street riding and is extremely cold I'll wear the balaclava with the street helmet.

I try not to do dirt riding with the street helmet because of several reasons, one you get too hot and steams up the visor even if it's up, and no dust protection for your eyes.

I have a dual sport lid and a dirt lid.
Both full coverage dirt lid is fitted with a chatter box so I can talk to the wife while riding.
both helmets have camera mounts.
each has it's place and I wear the one that fits my riding need at the time

I run an MX lid with goggles everywhere. I don't suffer from visor lift or noise like a lot of helmets can do.

I wear a traditional dirt helmet but those dualsport types from Arai sure look nice.....then I see the price tag. You do get what you pay for though, right.

I always ride my R1 on cooler days because it has built in heaters, and my motard on those unbearably hot days because I can catch so much more wind. It's always a dirt helmet and goggles.
