| I saw a pic of that a couple of weeks ago, but this writeup definitely I didn't see. Nice can tho! Be interesting to see what the actual dB level is on it. _________________ A wolf's voice echoed down the mountain 'Share the bounty of the hunt with your brothers and sisters, and forever be strong and free.' | |

| Interesting. No weights of sound levels listed for it though unfortunately. | |

| I listened to one on Saturday in the garage it was WAY to loud for me. Outside it wasn't so bad. I sure hope the Q4 arriving today is not that Loud or it might be for sale quickly. | |

| Yeah, it always seems like you have to choose between heavy junky stock exhaust or really loud aftermarket. When is someone going to come out with quiet, light weight, good quality aftermarket units?
Still, hoping more info on the two-bro's will become available as an option.

| Has anyone tried one of these to quiet their aftermarket cans?

| The DbDawg looks interesting. I would guess that adding that to an exhaust without similar insert would be like the difference between running the stock exhaust with and without the spark arrestor. No real noticeable power difference, but a definite sound difference. As they say on the web site, the flat bit on the end bounces the sound back, but the big openings allow the exhaust gases to flow freely.
So, with that in mind, a question for those that have aftermarket pipes. What sort of insert do they tend to have in the end?

So, with that in mind, a question for those that have aftermarket pipes. What sort of insert do they tend to have in the end? The FMF Q4 insert (SA) looks like this... It is roughly 4 1/4" long and is 1 5/8" in diameter at the flange that fits in the pipe. There is a duck bill shaped screen welded inside. Here is a pic of the pipe with the SA removed... I am going to order a dBDawg today, so I will let you all know how it works out. It's not that I am unhappy with the sound of the Q4 and I have never had any complaints, but it really could be a little quieter IMO. Somedays I feel guilty firing it up and riding through the neighborhood early in the morning. But like I said, I haven't had any complaints about the noise. The only issue with the dBDawg would be if you off road, since it replaces the spark arrestor. I ride the street almost exclusively, but if I ever ventured off the pavement I would put the SA back in. BTW, I took these photos just for this thread and now I have to re-silicone the SA back in the pipe, which means no more riding today until it cures. Just goes to show the kind of sacrifices I'm willing make for this forum!

DOH! My bad. I don't remember seeing that, but you are correct. Sorry for the misinformation.

| Well I just shitcanned that idea. I just got an email from Cliff at DirtWerkz and the dB Dawg will not fit in the FMF Q4. He said he tried one on his son's Q and it was a no go. Not enough clearance for a straight in shot, even mounted horizontally. The dB Dawg needs 2.5" on straight in clearance and the Q4 has a slight curve downward on the top side of the outlet as you go in that far. I asked Cliff if you could grind off enough of the Dawg to make it fit but he said the Dawg's design requires it to be shaped the way it is to make it effective. Grinding it off would not leave enough material to support the insert and also make it much less effective for a noise supressor. Needless to say I was disappointed. At least I know the team at DirtWerkz is a good bunch of people. How many of you work this late on Easter Sunday? I wasn't expecting a reply until tomorrow at the earliest. So here is a cheap plug for DirtWerkz.com. Surf on over and check them out. They're good people! | |

| I was so excited about the dB Dawg... because you wanted it and I am sure you could give a very good feedback... but it was a no-go Do you think it will work for my Delta? The can is a straight piece Which model will the Delta fit? | |

| Right now I am using this tip I guess I will have to measure the ID of the can sometime this week... Did they mention that they will reduce the sound/noise level even at idle? | |

| From what I have read the noise level is mainly decreased at idle. The higher the RPM the less effect the dB Dawg has on noise levels.
I am still on the fence with this thing. I have emailed FMF to see what they know about fitment. I emailed Ignition Racing who makes the dB Dawg to ask them what they think. I have also had another email from Cliff at DirtWerkz and he seems to think if I do get it to fit that it might be a performance issue with the Q4 since it is supose to be quiet to begin with. He feels that adding the Dawg would maybe add too much back pressure and lower the performance at the low end some. I'm going to wait until I hear from FMF and Igntion Racing before I buy one.
Cliff also mentioned I might want to repack the Q4 and try that first. I have never repacked it since I got it, but it doesn't seem to be any louder than when it was new. Has anyone had to repack their Q4 yet? Did you notice a decrease in sound? I believe FMF says to repack about every 30 hours or so, but hell, I have well over that now. 30 hours of riding to me is like two months, maybe less. I commute an hour a day when I ride to work. That could get expensive having to repack that often.

If that's the case, I am surely getting one... I hate to wake up the neighbours when I push that button every morning I think the dB Dawg will fit the Delta nicely... afterall, the insert I am using is coming to 4 inch long! and the best part is... the digital vernier caliper is screwed... so I ended up doing it the cave man way But there's a catch here.... from the tip of the can to the tip of the inner pipe, there is a 2mm gap (you can see from the "step" in the picture)... and the inner pipe seems to be 1mm thick while the widest part of the can is at 37mm... Another high tech drawing/illustration of what I mean above so how should I order?

| Bummer it doesn't fit the Q4, but thanks for taking it apart to show us mwakey.
I haven't looked at their fitment info yet, but I'm thinking that for those who haven't bought a pipe yet it may be worth while to check the chart first. I wonder if the Two-Brothers would work.

I'm using the two brothers silencer and I'm very happy with it. Very nice workmanship, really felt the increase in power and its a pretty pipe. A bit loud, but you get use to it. I just don't know if their is a head pipe out there that would fit them. Since they don't make one and not plan to make one, as one of the guys from two brothers told me. Maybe the head pipe does not need to be changed. Problem with the stock head pipe is, its too heavy.
