| I was just about to order the FlatLand Skidplate, however in small letters below the skidplate I saw; (Emissions canister will need to be relocated to install this skidplate)
HUH??? What does that mean?

| Maybe it's just for California emissions stuff? | |

| It means that "Emissions canister will need to be relocated to install this skidplate". :)
The black bottle between the split in the front down frame members below the exhaust ?
If yours doesn't have one you won't need to remove it. * cheeky smile *
All configurations of the WR are the same. It is a 50 state bike.

Wrong. If you bought your bike anywhere besides Cali, It probably did not come with the canister on the front. It would be in the very front behind the wheel on the frame. It would be very obvious that it would be in the way of a skid plate. You should be fine. Do you have one of those? Did your bike come from California?

| Oh... I see. Not the FRONT, but the VERY FRONT on the frame.Sorry for any confusion. I thought that is what I said. I admit. I'm not that righteous. I COULD be wrong. Either way, my guess is that the directions are probably correct. | |

| I wasn't saying "VERY" front to say that your description "FRONT" was wrong. I only posted because I thought you were saying that they all came with the canister on the front. That is all. | |

| Okay... I understand now. Someone got ahold of your computer and typed this under your user name. - john92 wrote:

....but for reference you can go to the Yamaha WR Parts lists and change any variable model (R or X) and year you choose and they all look exactly like this: So... Is that not, " between the split in the front down frame members below the exhaust." ? So just to maintain the answer for the OP. The canister (on every R or X WR sold in ANY state) would be in the way. ...and in fact the directions are ALSO correct. Right ? Maybe yours is a New Jersey model ? Say "Uncle" at any time.

| Here is a picture of the front of my 2008 wr250x. It's a 49 state model. Nothing removed except AIS crap. No canister will need to be removed if I decide to mount a skid plate of any kind. California models have a bulbous black canister thingy protruding out from the main downtubes. 49 state models don't have that shit. _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

| Here's a california model: Notice the black plastic piece of crap sticking out from the main downtubes right in front of the engine. _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

Doode you got ripped off ! I'd complain you didn't get a canister ! Based on the details on the Yamaha website part list they all come with one. So which, exact model on the Yamaha parts list is that ? Curious, because I don't see any model without one. Again... Regardless, (I'll repeat myself at a risk of being from the department of redundancy department) if it has one the skid won't fit without removal. I'm done... Have a nice day.

| In the picture that you posted, there is a box around those parts and its labeled "FOR CAL". I don't know who pissed in your cereal but I wasn't trying to start shit but you must have been in a bad mood. I'm glad I'm not the only one that's heard of the whole 49 state legal thing. Your state is the only one they make special parts for. And for the record, I don't ever say uncle if it means letting someone think they're right when they're definitely not. (Wives might be the only exception to this rule.) Anyone else that feels like stooping down to our level will confirm that you're mistaken about this. | |

| All I will say is this:
There is MOST DEFINITELY a California Model wr250x/r that is specific to California only, and a 49 state model wr250x/r.
The difference is, the California model gets a black charcoal canister stuck right between the main downtubes where they split in front of the engine.
There are some skidplates that are designed to fit around that canister.
California has laws in place that make it illegal to remove that canister I believe.
It's a pollution emissions control device specific to California only.
If you look on the Yamaha web site you will see references to "Cal model" or something like that. yamaha web site - wr250x
To repeat - There is a California model.
49 state models don't come with that charcoal canister. Period. _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

| Shhesh, I didn't know I caused so much controversy with my skidplate question. And for the record, I DID always know that there was a Cal version with some extra shit on it for emissions and environmental reasons. Luckily I don't have a Cal version so hopefully the Flatlands skidplate will hook right up and give me no problems. | |

| You should be 100% fine. I have a flatlands skidplate on mine. The only issue you might want to deal with is the extra noise from hooking it up. People have dealt with the vibration noise different ways. I just put some small rubber washers in between the frame/skidplate when I bolted it up and called it a day. | |

You might also avoid such "controversy" if you use the search feature here. I know it sucks, but there are plenty of threads on skidplates, and Zeta handguards already around this place. Some might even be stickies by now. _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

| I agree Motokid. Half of it was not finding my specific questions answered in those threads (yes I looked) and the other half was just laziness. | |
