WTF! Wow, that is impressive! And, yes I would confidently run from him if there was a dirt trail to shoot down preferably with some jumps!

I wouldn't run from the police ever. But, if I were to run and he was behind me, I would just look to hop over the nearest curb. amazon

Impressive skills nonetheless. Can't say it's the best bike to equip the police with but they have to work with what they've got.

i know a few spots i think i could lose him in.. some nice steep, rocky hills. ..or some sloppy mud & water crossings.

But those are some pretty good moves with that big of a bike. I remember taking the motor cycle test in Az with my old TW years ago.. i would not want to do that on a harley.

Put him on a dirt bike, & i could never catch him.

Outrun him ? Not doing that on a Hardley !

Otherwise who knows...

I'd probably be more inclined to want to take him riding WITH me !

Nothing like your buddy flashing his (and your) get out of ticket free with the right credentials !

I once rode with a cop who would ride soooo fast in the city streets it terrified me. The ticket deflector badge might work, if your buddy is somewhere nearby when you get pulled over. With this guy you'd get busted for doing 65 in a 25 and he'd be gone...

When I first moved to MN, I rode with a HP cop who couldn't seem to keep the front wheel of his RC-51 on the ground. We only rode on country two-lanes, but he just hammered the hell out of that bike. He died a few years back (cancer) and I haven't had a police escort since. It was fun while it lasted.

Back in my cop days, the saying was "You might outrun Crown Victoria, but you'll never outrun Motorola".

And I suspect if that guy had to hop a few curbs, he could probably do it - we don't have to worry about who pays for the damage to the PCs or the bikes. I saw a motor cop clean a guy off a rice rocket years ago. Apparently the idea a traffic cop will use his motorcycle to take them right out never occurs to those guys. A lot of the motor cops (back then at least), could really ride - they were bikers off the job as well, and I raced motocross with a few that could eat my lunch any day and more than a few raced out at the track on weekends. I never saw them doing any of these kind of exercises however.

Might be different from place to place, but for us, badging some guy to get out of a ticket would have been kind of like slipping your sister some tongue in front of your buddies.

You'd get out of it probably, because the guy would be embarrassed for you, but you'd just know that everybody on your watch would hear all about how you couldn't man up. And not long after that, you'd be the butt of jokes throughout the detachment. Worse, if you got nailed by a hard core traffic guy, they'd write up their own mothers so you'd get the ticket anyways - and everyone at the detachment would still hear all about it.

I didn't write a lot of tickets; I used the "reasonable cause" the offence provided me with to check people out, and letting somebody go who thought they had a ticket on the way did more for positive PR than a ticket did for community safety. Except for dirtbags of course; hang every piece of paper you can on them like it's wallpaper. And those who insist on talking their way into the tickets with their nasty mouths. I think I only had one cop badge me - and yes, I let him off... and then told the watch how he girled on me when he got stopped. But boy, I sure got a lot of firemen falling all over themselves to accidentally make sure I couldn't miss seeing their badge while they were getting out their driver's licenses.

There's a lot more dignity and self respect salvaged in simply keeping your mouth shut and paying the ticket.

The problem with most people is they don't consider the strengths of a supermoto. If I am running, I ain't gonna play to the cop's strenghts and my weaknesses. I am gonna play to the sumo strengths and his weaknesses and I will be GONE long before he can ever consider getting on the radio.

Good luck on that. They'd have you tagged by radio before you take off, then you'd be trying to outrun the helicopters. Or a bullet when they finally get pissed off enuf with you. Gonna Run From This Guy On Your X/R??? 163123 Isn't it easier to just follow the rules than it is to be an idiot?

Well then the OP should have asked if anyone of us thought we could outrun this guy on our WR .... cause if we are going to bring the entire force complete with air support into it then the original post seems kind of pointless don't cha think?

As long as I live I will NEVER understand how breaking a traffic law justifies the use of deadly force? It just gobsmacks me that people think it is justified to kill a driver or rider who transgressed some minor regulatory law. Yes the traffic code is regulatory law, NOT criminal and no regulatory law includes the use of lethal force, not to mention there is no death penalty in Canada.

That clown is so dumb he'd probably notice that you're going down, not up.

But assuming you were going up, he's so dumb that while you were showing how you could climb those steps, he'd probably just ride right up that smooth hillside we can all see there and T-bone you right off your bike at the top. Pit maneovers don't work so good from motorcycles with cars, but it's not too hard on a motorcycle that weighs over twice as much as a WRX.

I gather you don't like police much. Would I be correct in guessing you've managed to collect a few performance awards from police over the years as a result of your contempt for traffic laws?

I'd like to put you in the same course with that "clown" with your X and see if you could beat his time and penalty score for knocking over pylons. My guess and my wallet would bet that he'd kick your ass, and do it badly, even on that big bike. Most of those police motorcycle rodeos offer guys like you the opportunity to get in there and show just how much better you are, you know.

Yeah, that's what they all say... "Hah! Most people aren't as smart as me and don't consider their strengths. Me, I'm just too smart for the cops. And I can outrun Motorola!" And yet, most of those chases end up with the runner in the ditch and/or wearing the Queen's Jewelry. Funny how that works. Maybe it's only the dummies who run from the cops.

And most of those who say they're too smart for the cops have a record of driving offenses that proves otherwise... so obviously, they haven't been quite smart enough to elude the police after all.

Isn't it a pity that we simply don't contract writing traffic legislation to the individual geniuses out there who have it all figured out, instead of having them done by elected governments?

Somewhere out there, is another person who finds the laws making it illegal to kick the crap out of people like you stupid, childish, and condescending. And he chooses not to follow them. Perhaps you'll meet each other one day while you're "performing" and you can work out your mutual contempt for the law.

Well, your genius explanation of how the law operates in Canada pretty much sufficiently serves to explain why people like you are utterly unqualified in any way to either evaluate or create law.

As it happens, enforcement of "regulatory law" does permit the use of lethal force. In fact, if you knew about half as much about the law as you think you do, you would know that as much force as is necessary can be used.

I doubt anyone can help you with your riding problems, but at least we can help the audience with your expert analysis of Canadian law. To quote the Criminal Code:
25. (1) Every one who is required or authorized by law to do anything in the administration or enforcement of the law
(a) as a private person,
(b) as a peace officer or public officer,
(c) in aid of a peace officer or public officer, or
(d) by virtue of his office,
is, if he acts on reasonable grounds, justified in doing what he is required or authorized to do and in using as much force as is necessary for that purpose.
...
(4) A peace officer, and every person lawfully assisting the peace officer, is justified in using force that is intended or is likely to cause death or grievous bodily harm to a person to be arrested, if
(a) the peace officer is proceeding lawfully to arrest, with or without warrant, the person to be arrested;
(b) the offence for which the person is to be arrested is one for which that person may be arrested without warrant;
(c) the person to be arrested takes flight to avoid arrest;
(d) the peace officer or other person using the force believes on reasonable grounds that the force is necessary for the purpose of protecting the peace officer, the person lawfully assisting the peace officer or any other person from imminent or future death or grievous bodily harm; and
(e) the flight cannot be prevented by reasonable means in a less violent manner.

As it happens, the police are generally self-regulating in further restricting when their members can use potentially lethal force in traffic violation offenses. Meaning, most of the time when they COULD shoot your sorry ass off your bike while fleeing them, their department policy says they're not to.

Do I want police killing somebody for attempting to wow the crowd by riding down stairs because they're embarrassed that they aren't good enough to ride a trials course with real riders? Absolutely not.

If police do kill some sad, pathetic asshole running from them on public roads, where innocent kids, bystanders, etc are put at risk by their flight, do I want to see them killed? No, but if it stops you putting other people at risk because you can't man up after getting caught breaking the law, that works for me too.

It's a rather unique concept that the law should put the bar so low that it is an attractive alternative to simply try and outrun police on public roads every time the smart guys get caught breaking the law.

Gymkana is a cirucus act, nothing more. All it takes is practice.

This argument is silly. I roadrace and I would bet dollars to donuts (as a cop that should interest you) that I'd whip officer clown shoes on a roadrace track. But how relevant is that to ...... anything? Just about as relevant as your betting I couldn't gymkana.

Blah blah blah.

Yes, I really do believe you do have all those cop friends. Honest, I do! Where else would you have gotten your legal knowledge that had you informing us how lethal force can't be used in non-criminal offences, right? Or, for that matter, that people can't be held criminally liable for the actions of other? From all the cop friends you claim, they told you that? Oh yes, I believe...

And it must make for warm fuzzy moments as you sit there telling these cop buddies you claim that you find motor vehicle laws "stupid, childish and condescending" - and thus, you choose not to follow them. And referring to police officers as "circus clowns" - man, I bet that really gets the camaraderie going among you! Yep, cops all over the world are just looking for heat bags like you to hang out with, especially the ones who refer to the people in their profession as "circus clowns". Don't we all want to choose as our friends people who refer to those in our chosen profession as "circus clowns" - particularly the guys who work off a bike in all kinds of weather instead of in a nice comfy car? Can't imagine a better person for a member to choose to associate with! A real career builder!

Oh yes, I believe...

Indeed, blah, blah, blah...

Well, I'd rather the law just said that when some asshole who thinks the traffic laws shouldn't apply to him comes speeding down our road when we have dogs and kids living here, I could just throw a 2x6 across the road about chest level as he went by and let him deal with that.

But while that might be satisfying - and maybe save some kid or pet from getting run down sometime in the future by the aforementioned asshole - I suppose that would make me almost as bad as him.

Anyways, presumably, now CDNSXV can go tell his cop friends what the law in Canada actually says about the use of lethal force in respect to regulatory offences. And that these things called reverse onus and strict liability offences do exist.

I hate to think of all those cop friends of his running around doing their jobs who apparently don't know the law on use of force, nor that strict liability and reverse onus offences exist.
