WR250R Stalling Issue

I am the new owner of a 2010 WR250R which had about 1100 miles on it when I bought it. I love the bike but am frustrated that it stalls often while at stop signs and stop lights. I do not feel that I should have to keep the bike revved while waiting for the light to turn green. Any ideas?

I'm assuming you have tried adjusting the idle already.

Does it ever idle normally or is the problem only when stopping for a light or stop sign?
Was any work done to it before the problem started?


I would start with the easy stuff
Dirty air filter
vacuum leak at the throttle body
Throttle cable adjustment
Spark plug

INCORRECT ENGINE IDLING SPEED

Engine
1. Cylinder (s) and cylinder head (s)
Incorrect valve clearance
Damaged valve train components

2. Air filter
Clogged air filter element

Fuel system
1. Throttle body
Air intake in throttle body joint
Improper throttle cable free play
Faulty air induction system

Electrical system
1. Battery
Discharged battery
Faulty battery

2. Spark plug (s)
Incorrect spark plug gap
Incorrect spark plug heat range
Fouled spark plug
Worn or damaged electrode
Worn or damaged insulator
Faulty spark plug cap

3. Ignition coil (s)
Faulty ignition coil
Cracked or broken ignition coil

4. Ignition system
ECU failure.
Faulty crankshaft position sensor

Thanks for the tips. I will check into these items. Yes, I have already adjusted the idle but it didn't seem to help much. This does not seem to be a problem when riding off road mainly because I tend to keep the bike revved more. It is only an issue when riding on the street when I come to a stop at a light or stop sign.

I had the same problem with my X around 1200 miles & after tedious testing of many sensors & breaking the fuel pump, I found that my spark plug was going bad. Got to where it wouldn't start & just crank. Somehow it couldn't throw a spark under compression but outside the engine it sparked. Hope this may help you. I had a post on my findings in the "What Broke" section.

Check the battery also. Mine would start and then die at stop signs. On mine you cold actually see the twilight pulse brighter and weaker at idle before replacing the battery. The battery was not taking a load as well as the connections tom battery being loose. Replaced battery and no more stalling.
