| I own a Subaru and one of the most helpful topic pages on the Subaru forum is the DIY topic page. People will post up DIY on this page or request DIY no matter if it is suspension, engine, etc... This helped me save 1400 dollars by replacing my own head gasket in my car. =)
They have a sticky for this page topic that gives an index that they organize it into subcategories (engine, suspension, interior) so people can reference this first before making or requesting a DIY.
Also It's just fun looking through what DIY are out there. There were a bunch of things listed on there I never even considered doing (certain mods I never known about) or just fun reading when I'm bored to learn something new.
Below is the link of the DIY page on the Subaru forum to get an idea

Notice the first thread sticky is the DIY index. It's pretty awesome.

| Isn't this entire forum sort of a DYI section?
Certainly the Sweet Mods section and the What's Broke section is a DYI section isn't it? General Maintenance?
Shit - the entire Technical section is DYI.
I'd say it's already here in spades. _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

| Well the thing is, it makes it a lot more functional and user friendly. Instead of typing a certain search function of the specific DIY and pulling a bunch of other threads that has those same key words and having to search through and read. Plus people are sometimes not too keen on the search function and just keep posting a new thread of a topic that was already discussed. Motokid your always the one pointing at people to use the search function. This might also save yourself some time and unnecessary typing in the process. I think one of the biggest benefits I've came across is that it shows you mods or things you can do when you were not even searching for it. Like really weird mods or just a fix it topic that doesn't have a definite label like, oil change, bore kit, etc... I guess a great example is Duanew's find regarding the twitchy throttle. If somebody was going to search that, everybody is going to type something different and most likely will never find it. If there was a index having the topic "Throttle on off at idle" I would click it and read out of curiosity and also if it is listed on the DIY index I know it will show me it will fix something. When I'm done reading I would think to myself, "my bike is pretty jumpy. This will also give an idea who ever is working on their bike, what isn't available as a DIY. So if they were to replace a clutch or something else, it will motivate them to document the process and hopefully take some pictures in the process. Plus the only thing people are going to post in the DIY topic room is either "here is a DIY on how to do blah blah" and "Can someone make a DIY on blah..." It's not going to have a bunch of filler threads about nonsense. Sweet mods section is mostly people showing a new mod they would like to share. Most likely they will not show how to install unless asked for and it's sometimes an product that does not require a DIY. It' s a nice topic forum to share a new gadget or mod but it's not specifically tailored to do it yourself. What broke topic forum is usually a diagnosis forum. People have issues and call it out. People make suggestions what might be the cause. It's not a dedicated, "how do you fix it yourself." The search function might be ok for now since the community is pretty small and tight knit, but as it grows and more threads are posted, it's going to be a pain in the butt to find. I think it would be a good preventive measure in keeping this forum clean as it is now. Iono it was just a suggestion and what would it hurt if we do have this type of forum topic? I see only benefits than headaches. iono that is just my opinion | |

| Yes, I do try to get people to use the search function. That won't change with a DIY section either.
It'll just spread stuff out even farther.
In the end, the mods and Admin's can do whatever they want.
My experience with running forums of my own, and being members of forums, is that the more places people have to post, the more difficult it is to find what you're looking for.
More isn't necessarily better in other words, but if people here want it by all means, ask for it.

| I would like it too. im new to this forum, and i tried to find a DIY or How to section where all the stickies are posted. for instance i want to change the rear sprocket, there is not sticky in the sprocet section showing me how to do it. maybe i'm not understanding how to search, but its not easy to find this. - motokid wrote:

| How to change the rear sprocket?
Really?
Remove rear wheel. Remove bolts holding current sprocket on. Remove sprocket. Place new sprocket on wheel. Replace bolts. Torque. Replace wheel. Adjust chain length. Tighten rear axle.
