| Farting around in gimp, found this sort of interesting. Basically our motor DOES scale almost just like like 1/4 of an R1 engine, until about 8000rpms. Also, all I can guess on the stronger low end torque on the R1 is the higher compression. I guess it really isn't just more revs that we need though. Even if we kept the same red-line our motor would make ~35 - 40 hp if it could breathe like the R1 engine. *note, this is an animation, if the animation isn't playing it wont make any sense. | |

| That is cool info! I guess I need to look into a nice ram air snorkel? | |

| I am trying to figure out a way to do a RAM air setup, mostly just because, to dump more air into this little thing. It would be nice to have too much air instead of not enough. Where to put it though is the question as I ride mostly dirt and don't want to have it filling with dirt and mud all the time. | |

| We've got the huge air scoops for our one tiny radiator, you could probably get a ram air scoop in there but I don't know how you would route the plumbing. A good setup would probably get you like 1/2 a hp at 70mph. Its probably our head, cam, and compression making for the disparity. | |

| ive seen people but holes in the side pannel and run without the air box cover. if you had your leg in the right spot it might work as a scoop. also if you got the off road coolent over flow from a later 426 you can re rout the over flow can on the left side to the back of the bike and make all sorts of room for a ram air. now ive toped my bike out at 160 km/h with stock gearing and since ram air really works around 65-70 mp/h your working the little bike pretty hard(and gas) to get a very little gain. a pipe, motor kit and chip are alot easyer for a gain in FUN! | |

Actual or indicated? Down a LONG hill or flat? 160kph = 99mph. I've never seen 99 indicated (I think I saw 96 once). Mine has all the usual mods, and I've spent some time on the programmer settings. Everyone who's ridden it says it's fast (for a 250). Is my 200+ pounds screwing the power/weight ratio? I think the only way my WR could break 100mph is by riding it out the back of a C5-a transport plane. On a related note: does the speedo have a 3rd digit for over 100 or does it go to 00?

| I like this comparison. Especially since I have both. - railbird wrote:

I think the WR does have the third speedo digit (so the rest of the world can use km/h while we Murricans use mph.) I think it is your weight that is killing you. I have done 90 GPS speed (96 indicated) on my stock bike in the WRX configuration.

| well im 125 soaking wet and when i had it at the drag strip i clocked it at 93mph and 15sec, so i found a flat road about a mile long and held her wide-freekin-open and saw 160km/h on the dash. there might be a diff between the USA and CDN model but i dont think its that much. and did i say im really small, ive been told id make a great gp rider lol. the one thing i found with the wr and get your @$$ right to the back, grab a fork tube and hold on. they draft hearly's realy well too! | |

| Tucking works REALLY well for me since I'm ~6'2 ~270lbs and wide shoulders (built like a football player). I can watch the speed drop based on how far I sit up lol. | |

| The third digit is for the tuba-ramair-scoop-addon-attachment ... then you really get going somewhere quick. | |

| Interesting. I also have both and my R1 makes the WR-R feel like a scooter towing a camper. | |

how bout installing an air scoop to the air box side panel then leaving the air box door open so the air can flow straight to the air filter? will that work? u can feel the wind if u place your right hand by the side of the panel. its pretty a strong wind. u can use that as a ram air. just pondering... any thoughts?

| Ram air doesn't really come into play until 120mph +. Not gonna do a damn thing on the WR. | |

| Yeah, I have seen that also, but that is for the bigger engines ... I wonder, though, if even a little extra psi from a strong head wind, for example, would help out a little? | |
