Thinking of buying a 250x Empty
PostSubject: Thinking of buying a 250x   Thinking of buying a 250x EmptySun Jan 29, 2012 10:01 pm

I've been looking at these bikes for some time now, seems like they are fun and a good beginner bike.
I found one on the local craigslist, an 08 with 350 miles, garage kept, basically like new for $3500. I'm probably going to take a look at it sometime this week, my question for you guys, is there anything i should look for? It will be my first street bike (I've ridden dirt bikes and have a race 4 wheeler). Also, how do they handle off road?

Thanks, Josh

There's more than a few threads here about this very subject. Read around.
I think we've answered this twice just this weekend.

Search feature here sucks....but try to use it.

First thing I'd ask is when did it run last and why does it only have 350 miles?

I'm in tampa. If you dont buy i might for that price and mileage. The reason Motokid questions the mileage, and I agree, is b/c this bike is such a blast to ride its hard to believe there is only 350 miles! Buy it, ride it, and try not to break to many laws!

In bikes that have not been ridden in a while it's not uncommon to find elaborate mouse nests in airbox openings and chewed wires.

Why is what's basically a 5 year old bike sitting and not being used?

When were the 350 miles put on it?

Battery is probably dead. Seals might be dry rotted. How old is the oil in it?
How old is the gas in it?
Where was it kept?
5 year old tires are probably not real safe no matter how "new" they appear.

Anything that sits for a long time (years) without being used tends to degrade/rust/dry-rot much faster than something that's being used.

I'd be more leery of a 2008 with only 350 miles on it than I would of a 2008 with 3500 miles on it.

A lot depends on the circumstances. I'd ask lots of questions.
