Chain Slap Empty
PostSubject: Chain Slap   Chain Slap EmptyFri Jul 13, 2012 12:14 pm

I am running a 150/60 17 on the back of my bike. I have noticed that the chain is touching the tire and leaving some scuff marks on it. Has anyone had this problem running this size tire. Chain tension is set right. I have about 1/4-3/8" clearance between the chain and tire. The chain only has about 3K on it so it isn't worn out. Is it something to be concerned about or is this normal for the oversized tire?????

I'd say it's normal. You're running a wider size than the spec so this should be expected. Hell, I'm running the correct size, and I've noticed my tire has a some marks from chain rub.

I don't think it's normal.

Might depend on the tire itself though.

My 150 Distanzia has no chain marks at all.

None.

Perhaps you need a new chain?

You say the chain is adjusted right, but are you sure the wheel is straight? It's ok to look at the hash marks on the blocks but always a good idea to also measure from the center of the swingarm bolt to the center of the axle to be sure the wheel is straight.

I get chain marks on my tires when the chain starts to get old and/or loose and has more side to side movement, on both the stock BT090 and the current wider Heidenau K76 in 150/70-17.

+1

I used to have a ton of chain slap... I replaced the chain/sprockets and have not had an issue since.
