I was wondering weather you can legally use knobbly off-road tyres on the roads Im in england by the way so it may be different

Can't speak for England, but over here in the USA, if you want to be 100% legit, your tires need to have a DOT (Dept. of Transportation) logo on the sidewalls.

There are street legal knobby tires both here and there, not sure what the specific rules are in the UK or EU however. Any good tire or bike shop nearby should be able to clear things up for you.

I know people that have run full moto tires on the road and had them come apart at 90-100kph. However, it is on average 30C plus in the summer here which may be a factor. That's the only thing I know that may go bad. If you want grip in the dirt then you can't beat them.
