Cutting out Empty
PostSubject: Cutting out   Cutting out EmptyThu Sep 06, 2012 1:53 am

I am guessing fuel pump but I figured I would ask. I ran it dry the other day due to happenstance. Filled it up. Did ok going to work, went to go to visit my parents today and it started cutting out. It wont die if you let it idle but when you try to rev it, its BRAAAAAP burrrrrr BRAP burrrrr over and over. Was a hard 5 miles getting to my destination, I musta looked retarded. Is there anything it could be other than the expensive fuel pump?

When you say "ran her dry" do you literally mean you road the bike until it completely ran out of gas?

If so, I'd imagine it's possible you got air into the fuel line and that might possibly be an issue until it's completely purged.

How far, or how long did you run the bike with the "cutting out" conditions?

Ran dry to the point it rolled in to the gas station and held 1.911 gallons. After I filled her up she drove 54 miles on the new tank before it started acting bad. Then I slowly made it about 2 miles to my destination and parked it for 4 days. Drained the gas. Smelled a touch old but no sediment or water. Drove it home running fine. For now....

Mine won't go that low. I've had it below 1.9 twice and it started cutting out both times. Wonder if it could be the stance. I'm pretty heavy, perhaps I shift the rear back enough that it misses that gas... but then again I'm running a lot of preload and a taller rear tire with a stock height front one. Its actually the same kind of bucking it was doing g the other day at half a tank, that's what I thought it was at first until I opened the gas cap and looked in. Fuel pump sounds strong when you turn the key though.

I was having issues with cutting out.

My negative battery terminal connection was loose. Tightened. Problem solved.

Worth a look I suppose.

I did just buy a new battery. Will definitely check that before I got to work in the morning.
