So, I change my oil because it is a bit murky (grey).

I ride for a couple of hundred miles and my fresh and clear golden oil has turned a murky gray. This seems way too fast.

Is this common? I am guessing it isn't.

If not, what do you think the cause could be.

My immediate thought was water intrusion but perhaps the clutch has been smoked. Before changing out sprox I did ride the clutch a bit more than I would have liked.

Any advice from my wrench turning, knuckle bustin' bretheren?

Scott

I thought it was pretty normal. You have to remember you'll never get all the old oil out with a drain/refill/filter change. You have to figure the residual old stuff mixes with the new stuff. Also, oil contains detergents that prevent sludging and whatnot. Those detergents are helping to darken the appearance of your oil.
Color is a lousy indicator of oil service life.

Side note; do you ever ride down to Tucson?

Alright. I feel a bit better about it then.

I get down to Tucson on occasion but haven't taken a ride down there.

Looks to be some great trails around.

Do you dual sport or strictly street?

Murky and grey is a strange description.

Can you take a picture of what you're seeing?

Just remember, a small amount of oil plus the fact that it also bathes the clutch means the oil won't stay looking like new very long at all.

I'm pretty much street only. I don't have a dirt setup and street tires suck in the dirt.
