So this past weekend I went camping and riding in one of my favorite places, Lake Isabella, California, near Keyesville and Alta Sierra.
This area has some of the best (and most challenging) single track in SoCal. And above 6,000 feet on day two, about 4-6 inches of fresh snow...
First day, some nice single track through the woods...
Lunch by the river...
This single track finally kicked my a**. It was SO narrow and with a steep dropoff that meant one wrong move and you and your bike were going into the river. I had to turn around, it was just too gnarly for me, especially by myself...
Riding back to camp at dusk...
Day 2: Snow! The perfect amount of snow, enough to cover everthing, but not so much that you're struggling to get up any kind of incline...
Some trees were heavy with it...
Powdered donuts...
Some fog, some sun, all single track, all good...
But what happens when you set up a camera for one last session of donuts? BIFF!
Fortunately, falling in snow doesn't hurt much. I had on my heated vest and heated gloves, and the tireballs performed flawlessly all day, I never noticed any dip in pressure from the cold or any loss of grip compared to a normal tube. Very happy camper...
