PostSubject: Questiom on Athena BB kit   Questiom on Athena BB kit EmptyMon Jun 17, 2013 11:02 am

I really want to install this product on my bike.

I was wondering if the BB kit changes the fuel / air ratio at all, thus requiring a programmer/ computer?

Also, I'm fairly technical but haven't really tinkered with my WR. Is the BB kit user installable?

Last but not least, does the installation alter my Yamaha warranty?

Thank you in advance for any replies!

#1) A big-bore kit will absolutely void your warranty

#2) Yes - people have installed them on their own, but it's not for the faint of heart

#3) I'd assume you'd most definitely NEED a programmer

Yes, you will absolutely need a programmer.  The Athena kit comes with a little black box that alters the A/F ratio for the kit, but it's a static device and can't be adjusted for other mods that you may have.

I have the Athena kit and have had bad luck with it.  Others will swear by them and have had good experiences (at least that's what they say), but it didn't work out that way for me.

You might want to check out Thumper Racing's 280 big bore.  It uses a cast iron sleeve and a much better piston than the Athena.  I have one in a box waiting for me to have enough time to install it.

I'm curious as to why you'd want to fuck with a perfectly good motor?

I can understand going big bore if something bad happens to stock motor, by why would you undertake something of that nature if you haven't even added a programmer to your current bike?

I'm guessing you're running a completely stock unit?

No pipe, no programmer, no gearing changes, no airbox mods, ........

:hmmm:
