| I remember seeing leftovers for $5000 2 months ago on ebay or something when I was shopping for my bike. I guess that would be my inclination. Try to get a decent price for the left over. | |

| They are identical bikes so I would go with the cheapest. The left over should still get all the warranty etc. My $0.02 | |

| They have been sitting on two 2012's since June of '12 I kind of lean towards why get a 2 year old leftover when and brand spanking new one would only be $30 more a month..... Then again who doesn't like a good deal.... As you see my dilemma. | |

| This is a no-brainer.
The "2 year old leftover" as you call it is still a brand spanking new bike.
No different than the 2014 unless maybe there's a color difference.
If you get the same warranty and perhaps other "incentives" to take the 2012, I'd go with the 2012.
What is the total price difference between the two?
How much would you save by getting the 2012?
I'd buy the 2012 without question based on the assumption I'd be saving at least $1000 _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

| I bought a 08 in January of 2010 for $4500 plus tax and title, no haggling, I called and it was the price. Soooo unless you are really into what ever the 14 colorway is I'd go with the 12 and expect 800 to 1K off msrp. Understand that the battery may not last too long. I only got two years out of the original battery. | |

I have a 2008. I have original factory supplied battery. I religiously use a Battery Tender Jr. any time the bike won't be ridden for more than a week to 10 days. Garage kept, and battery tender on bike all winter long except when bike is being ridden. Any and all motorcycle batteries, if neglected, won't last long. But yes - if buying a bike that's two years old, but still brand new off the showroom floor from dealer - I'd insist on them supplying a new battery in bike. _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

| They don't install a battery or add oil until the bike is sold. At least that's how my dealer does it. Go for a few more hundred off and get the new 2012 in my opinion. | |

| This is the kind of input I am looking for. I was just stuck on the thought that after 3 years I would have a 5 year old bike rather than possible a 2 year old model. I guess in the big picture it really doesn't matter, as long as I get a good enough deal on the leftover. I'm going to be buying one or the other soon here. | |

| Of the 8 bikes I've owned, I've never purchased one brand new. That said, if I got the deal that miniceptor86 did ($4500 for a NOS '08) I'd probably bite. If you can get that kind of discount it's a no brainer IMHO, no changes between the years, full warranty, and none of the worries that come with buying a used bike. Buy the '12 and ride the crap out of it. | |

| I bought a 2012 two months ago, love it! $5499.00 before tax, etc. 1300 miles so far, 200 off road, this bike is too much fun! : The WRR is my 22nd bike in the last 40 years. I have a 130HP sportbike, a 85HP ATV and a Adventure bike. What makes this little 30HP dirt bike so much fun to ride? I should have bought one 6 years ago! | |

| A different opinion-
Financing a bike seems like a plan for sadness, unless it's the only way to get to work. It is a toy and as such it's disposable.
The line of thinking - it's only $20 more per month - makes me wonder what is the totaly monthly payment and how will it feel paying it all winter when the bike is sitting unridden? Or what if trail damage repairs are needed, will it need to sit until cash is available? The payments will keep coming. |

| I keep going back and forth.. The 2012 price includes the 400 cash back yamaha offers to buyers. At that rate he only taking $600 off a bike he's been storing for a year and a half. Maybe he isn't motivated enough to sell that one... I'm gonna have to go back and talk to the dealer about his '14 availability and incentives. | |

$600 diff between a two year old bike and a current model year bike? I think you're right that he ain't motivated enough to sell it... or he's confident you or somebody else will eventually cough up what he's asking before the snow flies. $600 off a two year old bike compared to the price for the current model year ain't much. Yes, it's still essentially the same motorcycle minus cosmetic changes. But it is also true the value the instant you ride it off the lot is significantly different. To each their own. But after five years of being happy with my early '08, and the evidence here of how freaking reliable they are, I'd be looking for a pristine barely used bike or one hell of a deal on a leftover that is one or two years old. Some dealer, right now, is contemplating another winter with a '12, '13, etc in storage, and the subsequent depreciation on that bike next spring. He's just wondering if "that guy" will walk in before the snow flies and pay him what he's asking on that bike. Shop, don't be "that guy". Wheel and deal. If it's not used, consider the value with what you want from a relationship with a local dealer.

| Do some web research using Kelly Blue Book, Ebay Motors, ADVRIDER, this forum, etc, and suss out the difference in price between a used 2012 and used 2010, between a used 2011 and 2009, between a 2010 and 2008. Basically, establish the 2 year depreciation.
As soon as you buy that bike, you'll take that 2 year hit. So, factor it in to the price you'll pay. The hit IS more than $600. $1000? That sounds close.

| If both bikes are that close in price, the dealer isn't motivated. He might be if he's still gathering dust on it after another winter. I'd wait it out till he drops a better deal. Let the dealer have some time to think about the sale he would have if he gave you a better price. Maybe he'll call you & offer a better price. If not, it'll still be there to buy later on so don't get in a rush because there's no real shortage of WRs unless you wanted an X which you'd have to buy used now or buy supermoto wheels for an R. | |

Actually, there is a dealer near here that has brand new old stock (2008) X's for sale, asking $4,999 + taxes, fees, etc, etc.

Wow, now old stock 2008s. Now there is a dealer who isn't afraid of hanging on to something! By the way.... Where is that???

| It was a Yamaha dealer here in the Salt Lake area. They had the bikes two weeks ago, I think they may be gone now. I suspect that they got them from a dealer that went under, the delay being due to some sort of tie up in bankruptcy proceedings or such.
IIRC it was Full Throttle Powersports. I never went in to check 'em out, although I did come close.
