Might be stupid question but i changed my oil and when i start my bike and look at the glass sight there is no oil in there. This is just because its moving around right? When the bike is off and upright the oil is in-between the two lines like it should be. Thanks.

Hey mate, from your info that the oil is between the 2 marks when not running, then it can't be too far below from seeing it in the lower sight glass at idle on level ground.

Did you also replace the oil filter, and how much was the exact total of your re-fill from the change ?

I know that for my bike after filling from a good drain + filter it takes over 1.2L. This total puts the sight glass on or slightly above the top line with level bike. ( Engine off for at least 10+ mins ).

Under the above conditions, once started i can still see the oil in the lower sight glass with level bike at idle.

I'd very likely suspect that another 150ml +/- would let you see the oil in the lower window.

In any case it's not really any genuine concern in regards to being too "low on oil". But even so, such as for my bike that's actually proberly "overfull" by 100ml, i prefer to be able to at least just see the oil in the sight glass at idle.

Cheers.

I did replace the filter. Im not sure how much oil i used, i just filled until it went between the lines in the sight glass. When replacing the filter, does it latch onto the metal piece with the O-ring? It didn't seem to go on very well. I kinda just had to push it on and then bolt the metal piece with the filter back on.

The oil level will drop when the bike is running because it is pumping it up into the head. Thats completely normal. If you have any doubts you should check the bolt on the head to verify that oil is infact reaching the head. People on here call it an oil bleed bolt even though it has nothing to do with bleeding. If oil pisses out when the engine is running it verifies that the pump is working properly and that there are no restrictions. Think of the bolt as the same thing as a oil pressure gauge in your car. It verifies that the lubrication system is functioning. You could probably screw a pressure gauge into the port if you wanted to.

You could check the oil level in your car with it running, I am sure the same thing will happen.

The fact that the oil level drops on run up is the obvious indicator that the oil pump is operating.

There is really never any need to crack the oil check bolt unless there is a genuine oil pressure concern IMPO. ( Again, even on first start up from a new oil filter - it's just a matter of watching the oil level suddenly drop as oil pressure picks up and fills the new filter. This will usually happen within approx 10 sec's ).

The question i thought reads as that the OP was wanting to be able to see the oil in the lower sight glass at idle ? So to do this with level bike was proberly just a simple matter of adding 100~150ml of oil.

Cheers.
