You're making the rounds on the forums with this question aren't you?

NO! DO NOT USE E-85 in this bike!!! It WILL ruin your fuel system. Yamaha says it is safe to use 10% or less but you are better off finding ethanol free fuels if you can.

Here is the official word from Yamaha....

I avoid all ethanol in the WRX. I filled up at a Mohawk station once (I think they have 10%) and it ran terrible. The others that filled there had no problem, so it's not that it was just bad gas. The WR seems to like ethanol even less that the Ducati and the Z1000.

My apologies for bringing up a dead thread - but I think it might be better to revive than duplicate the topic.

Just wondering if the new 2013 are updated to run better on E15?

The book says E10 is ok in the owners manual but I'm not sure of any stations around here that have it... NJ =[

I am not aware of "E10". Basically any normal standard gasoline you buy can have up to 10% ethanol in it. Why do you want to run more ethanol? It has less energy so fewer miles between fill ups, it raises price of food, and will lower engine performance if the engine isn't specifically designed for it.

my local stations all are serving 15% ethanol in their gas...

the owners manual says that E10 or 10% ethanol fuel is OK.... however no mention of E15 grade gas

15% must be something new, or very regional. The ethanol will not damage your bike. I believe back in the day the rubber used in the fuel system couldn't handle it, but it shouldn't be a problem with anything new. There should be a performance decrease running that much ethanol, but no idea how noticeable.

We have local gas stations in NW Montana who advertise ethanol free premium, while some local Centex stations advertise ALL their fuel is ethanol free. Fuels with ethanol in MT and BC/AB usually have stickers on the pump advertising ethanol content as 10%. Never noticed 15%.

The ethanol free stuff is a little bit more expensive than your average fuel at other stations, probably to cover some penalty or whatever the government extracts for not being green and growing corn to make fuel out of instead of something stupid like feeding people.

Whatever, I don't obsess over it, but I try to hit the ethanol free gas stations as much as possible.
