| OK Guys,
After A LOT of reading on discussions and arguments.. it seems that a WR250X/R is the bike im looking for in my near future.. or a USED KTM since WRR/X and KTM guys seem to have the most arguments...
I am located in Tampa, FL and im looking to have a fun bike to ride around town on the 45/50mph roads with the occasional weekend ride in the dirt. I have already made connections with a few of the guys in Florida like Mototrippin that offered to take me out to show me around the dirt.. I have owned nothing but sport bikes my entire life up tell now so this is a new experience, but i have grown tired of just watching my friends with dirtbikes ride the dirt to release some stress off.. I currently own no bike due to my last one being stolen which was a sport bike..
Which one would you get if you were in my shoes.. ?? Ive found a 2011 WR250X about 5 hours away that has 37 miles on it for $5299 Ive have found no USED WR250R's but all the dealers i been to have them priced at or around $6199 Ive looked at USED KTM's but all the ones i seen that are bigger than 250cc for under 5k are high miles.. or say needs engine work.. seems like alot of broken KTM's end up on CL

| You don't have to settle. You can easily transform an X into an R with an extra set of wheels. I did this with my X and am enjoying off-road exploits in R form much more than I did in SM mode. I'll actually be selling mine in the not too distant future. Moving up to a KTM 500EXC. I'm at about 4,000 miles. Have a TR 280 Big Bore, fully ported head, PC5 & Autotune, Graves full exhaust, Pro Taper bars and lots of other goodies. Haven't decided on a price, but I think it will be somewhere in the neighborhood of $4,500. Let me know if you would like to take a look. I'm in DeLand, about 20 miles east of Orlando on I-4. | |

| In my mind it depends more on quality of riding than quantity. Meaning, where will you be "pushing it" the hardest - slab or dirt? Coming off sport bikes will you be hooligan riding the slab or touring? Will you be sight seeing in the forests or aggressive trail riding?
You may want to talk to the dirt guys and see what's in store for you in the woods. Florida is mostly flat, sandy fire roads that are occasionally submerged under swamp water. The X will be fine in the sugar sand (maybe even better than the R) but a little lower for water crossings. Up by me (Gainesville) there's rarely rocks or logs where the larger front wheel of the R is an advantage.
You may want to get the R just because it's farthest away from the sport bikes you're used to - just for the sake of it. You may also get the dirt bug and end up hauling to real off road riding out of state - in which case def the R.
Make no mistake. Whatever you decide, at some point you'll wonder if you should have gone the other route. That's how it is. So you tinker with the tires or do a conversion. All of which is no big deal.

Rocket ship. Hey Storx, Builder Bob knows his stuff. I'd wager his bike has been well maintained. You may want to take him up on his offer. Grab both sets of wheels off him and you're in high cotton.

| I would love to come check it out BoB the Builder... shout me an text sometime and we can work out a time and place to meet up.. 813-316-3343, im very interested if you are willing to include both sets of wheels. Well, honestly test drove a DRZ400 and DR650 and was amazed how slow they were.. and most of all... how heavy they were.. I have yet to ride on a WR250X/R yet due to the local dealer safeguarding them from test rides... I dont own a truck.. just my fun little diesel car.. and i am thinking of creating a bracket with my welder to turn the bike INTO a trailer for longer hauls.. it would be easy and i already spoke to a local cop in my apartment complex and he said it would be legal because the bike has a tag of its own...I wouldnt use a huge car wheel.. i was thinking i could use an 8inch lightweight trailer tire or one of those scooter tires... and build the rear section so it connects on the bike with a locking pin and just swings under the wheels with the tire putting the rear tire into a cage type area.. this would allow the front tire to rotate when i move from uneven surfaces and the suspension on the bike would dampen the bumps.. its just a thought since i have no place to store a trailer like i would like to.. so im thinking outside the box.. this would be cheap and easy to build and could be stored in the car trunk when not in use at the trail.. | |

Yes, at that price, I would include both sets of wheels and all of the stock parts that I still have in my possession, plus a few more doo-dads that I have hanging around for the WR. Full disclosure: I have been riding it in the woods so the plastics aren't pristine. I am constantly being strafed by small branches on tight single-track. There's some paint rubbed off the frame near the pegs due to my MX boots rubbing the frame in that area. Also, today during some spirited off-roading, the bike ejected me and landed muffler first on my MX boot, so I have a brand new dent in the can. This kind of stuff always happens when you think about selling something! LOL I'll get some new pics up after I clean her real good. Other than that, she's good. Runs like a scalded dog.

Great minds think alike! If you noticed the car in the background of the pics I put up, it's a TDI. Great car. I've used to to tow multiple bikes on a trailer many times. Most versatile car I've ever owned. plenty of torque to get the load up to speed and it gets great mileage even with a trailer behind it! Love it. Also have a diesel F-250, but that's another story.

| Hate to be a wet blanket but if you found the DRZ crazy slow you may want to reconsider the R2. Just sayin' | |

| IMHO Builder Bobs bike would be an excellent deal.
I just picked up a WR250X with the extra wheels for a bit less money but without the performance goodies that Builder's has.
BUY IT...or I will !!

| I know what you mean.. I am waiting for his contact bud, Honestly right before he offered to sell his.. i was literally on the phone with some guy out of Jacksonville Florida that replied on Another one of my post that wants to move up to a KTM from an 2008 WR250R also ... but his was stock with no mods.. he wanted less money for it.. but i rather see what bob the builder says.. i would rather pay a little extra for the extra power..
Kinda weird how i have run into 2 guys with WRR's wanting to move up to KTM's
