PostSubject: Wheelie Questions?   Wheelie Questions? EmptyFri May 21, 2010 4:07 pm

so i can finally clutch it up now but still have trouble using the throttle and rear brake to carry it toward longer. so this one time i clutched it from almost a stand still. it came up fast and high but why did my legs suddenly swing back? my feet were not on the pegs anymore. it's like an involuntary action that i had no control over. my legs just moved back by themselves. luckily i chopped the throttle so i didn't flip over. what's a good technique to make sure my legs are more stable? squeeze the tank with my legs? thanks.

PostSubject: will my clutch die very fast from clutch wheelies?   Wheelie Questions? EmptyFri May 21, 2010 4:10 pm

so i have no problem with replacing the clutch plates sooner. wheelies are so much fun. just wondering though, as a ballpark figure, how much sooner will the clutch plates be shot? i'm at 1000 miles right now. thanks.

p.s. - when i clutch it up and pop it fast so i don't ride it.

depends if you are learning to clutch it up or not.
some people destroy clutches learning...

I'm over 8,500 miles and my clutch is still great with countless wheelies.

i'm learning to wheelie but i can clutch it up pretty quick now. i guess the the faster the front comes up, the less the clutch wear, right?

to answer your question. if yopu just slip the clutch here and there. No you won't burn out your clutch any sooner than you would with normal riding.

My GSXR has almost 50K miles on the original clutch, and i wheelie that thing all the time (well used to). I grew up a lil over the last few years, lol.

I'd hunt down 12oclocker for this one but its just a thing you have to do man, keep that rear brake covered and hang on. Going over backwards isn't that big of a deal a few scratches and some strawberries nothing some triple antibiotics, and a new whale tail won't fix. If you are going to try to do anything like that its going to require some dropping of your bike. Its the law of the west. As I said before I'd ask 12oclocker for advice he seems to be the local stunter on this forum.

I agree:
Keep your foot over the rear brake pedal, your fingers over the clutch lever, and, most importantly of all, you're gonna' have to practice this stuff a whole lot.

Yeah, what you did was you got scared because you're new at this stuff and you instinctively reacted. :)

PostSubject: WTF? clutch wrist hurts from wheelies   Wheelie Questions? EmptySun May 23, 2010 3:35 pm

so i've been practicing some slow wheelies on my SM. but i think i pulled a tendon in my clutch wrist (the outside edge area of my wrist). i think it's cuz my clutch hand doesn't have a firm grip on the handlebar when i clutch it up. you know, when i pop it up my fingers need to move back onto the bar for grip for i guess that's when i hurt my wrist trying to support my body weight. i dont wanna compensate with my throttle hand cuz it will turn the handlebar.

what can i do to stop my wrist from hurting doing clutch ups?

can we keep this on topic? also, AFAIK i didn't break any rules. why do u have to be uptight about something on the internet? i posted different threads because in each thread i was asking a different question. last time i checked USA is a free country so no one has the right to tell another person how he/she should post on the internet. cheers

Hmmm.
More practice, then? :)

That actually my best advice for the original poster:
Enough with the questions - just get out there and practice the shit outta' that wheelie stuff if that's your bag.
Just expect plenty of screw-ups and scratches along the way. :)

After a long day of riding, with all the extra hardware in my body (titanium rod in femur and hip, screws in shoulder and ankle). Even at almost 31, i'm hurting the next day. ya getting old and growing up does suck!
