I was pleased to see that the WR's have tapered steering head bearings...

is this pretty much the norm with these dual sports now a days?

I'm used to working on 25 year old steeds with balls

I think that's standard now. Even my KLR has tapered rollers and it's a fairly old design. the rollers definitely are more forgiving and more durable.
