longer throttle cables needed? Empty
PostSubject: longer throttle cables needed?   longer throttle cables needed? EmptyMon Apr 16, 2018 8:24 pm

Hello all,

I have been adding various mods to my WRR and now it seems that I may be out of throttle cable adjustment.  Think I may need to get longer throttle cables.

Here are the mods that I have done that are eating up my slack -

Risers
Taller bars
r6 throttle tube
HBD Nexgen handguards

The r6 throttle tube used up the last of my slack. I have the adjuster on the handlebar at full loose, and the adjuster at the throttle body on full loose as well.  There is enough slack at full lock, but I am not able to tighten down the locknut on the bottom side under the tabs to hold it tight.

Have tried re routing them in various ways around the handle bars to no success.

Any suggestions on longer throttle cables or adjustment hints are appreciated.

Thank you

You can get a longer cable made by MotionPro. I had them make a longer clutch cable for me when I put taller bars on my VStrom.

As mentioned above you can get a set of custom length throttle cables from Motion Pro for $80 + shipping.  Just tell them you want the same as stock WR250 cables plus "x" inches.  It's probably a good idea to also check your clutch cable length with the bars turn to full lock in both directions.  Motion Pro can build you a custom clutch cable too, for around $48 or so.

Short term for your throttle cables you can gain some length by flipping the throttle housing upside down on the bars.  If you've still got the little anti-spin pin on the housing you'll need to drill another hole 180 degrees from the current one.  (Just a couple mm deep. No need to drill all the way through the handlebar wall.)

I ran mine like that for several months without issues before ordering custom cables.

Thank you both for the replies.

I called up motion pro and ordered a +3" push/pull throttle cable.  Hope it isn't too long , I believe it should fit nicely. Should give me all my adjustment back and be able to route them how i wanted.  May try the throttle housing trick as i already have the pin ground off for the new bars.

Weather is starting to turn nice here and waiting 2 weeks may be to long for me to bear.  wink

I think that's a good length.  I ordered mine +4" and found them to be about an inch too long for ideal routing.  If I had it to do over I would order +3" length.

I'm running ProTaper Woods High bend bars full width over a Scott's stabilizer underbar SUB mount that also acts as a bar riser.

Hey all, i finally recieved my +3 cables after 20 or so days. Im having a problem with the pull side of the throttle. It seems as if the cable it self outside the shroud is not long enough. I tried with the oem throttle tube as well and cant seem to make it work. If i have the pull side out of the bracket at the throttle body side it works smoothly. I think i may just be missing something simple. Any help please? Thanks ian
