Hello, can you hear me now?

Hello y'all. My name is FJROB and I'm a bike-o-holic. I own an FJR1300 with 200 000 kms on it. The other day I purchased a WR250SM. Low kms and the price was right. I will be riding it off road so the first thing to go will be the street tires. Knobbies already purchased. I'm in Ontario just north of Toronto. in an are called The Kawarthas. Trails as far as the eye can see. Hope to run into some of you.

What's a WR250SM?

I understand it's a WR250X. but folks around here were calling it a WR250 SM .The SM being Super Motard. Might be a local thing.

I imagine there are some fantastic trails in your area.I'm in Japan and in my area its mostly steep mountain trails but there is a private off road park near my house so that will be my training ground until I hit the steep stuff.

In the summer we have old logging roads and snowmobile trails to run. Should be fun.

Sharp looking bike, I like the colors. Looking forward to hearing some trail stories. If you plan on doing many rough rocky trails you may want to add a skid plate and change the sprocket. The highway one won't let you crawl along as easy as a bigger one. ENJOY!

Thanks for the sprocket tip. Do you know which sprocket I should go too?

I went with the 48 tooth on the back but my bike is the R not the X. Not sure what you may need with the shorter wheels. We do a lot of single track mountain riding in the Rockies and the skid plate along with the sprocket change was a necessary addition. I only suggest the skid plate because the X has a shorter ground clearance. X has 10.4 inch and the R has 11.8 inch. Even with the 11.8 I still bounce/slide it off of rocks in some places.

Skid plate is on the list. I'll try the 48 tooth sprocket.

There's a good sprocket/ratio thread in the sprockets and chains section... I think the x came stock with a 42 the r with a 43... Your gonna have a slower top speed than running a 19" in the back. I dropped my front to a 12t... I want to do a 13-48 or 47 combo. That way I can swap the front to a 12t quickly. Looks like the best setup I've seen for good highway and dirt... Plan on having to lengthen or get a 110 link chain... Some people get it to fit with an old 108 link. And new bolts are sometimes needed... Theres two styles but basically you can run wr250f sprockets but you need the bolts. Besides for that, how do those 17" knobbies perform offroad?

250f sprockets can be flipped and used with normal bolts.

Consider 14 front with a 50-51, with the option to go down to 13 front.
Should give you better chainslider wear, and same gearing, but with a bigger front sprocket.

The 12t front causes some to complain about vibration... Nothin compared to a big thumper though. I didn't notice much if anything. The weird mud in my area will be fine until my rear tire randomly drops into the swingarm. Bigger sprocket means less clearance... Haven't made up my mind entirely but I think I'm goin with aluminum. Having the gap in there would alter the strength a decent amount more than a steely. I'd suggest fillin with some jb weld or something to reduce this. The bolts are only 10$... I already have some but the op can make up his mind. Anytime I'm ordering parts I add hardware to the cart. Spare hardware on the shelf is the difference between riding on the weekend or having the bike torn apart waiting on parts for me...

I was lookin in the sprocket n chain thread... 110 is stock. To put a 48t on the rear you need a 48t...

The tires perform well. i've ridden the bike in some of the worse conditions I can think of. Everything from goose shit mud to broken granite to rain slick canadian shield and 2 feet deep beaver ponds . Loose sand and snow too. I'd be lying if I said I never fell over. I'm running TKC 80's . I ran TKC 80's on my FJR1300 to cross the Trans Lab Highway. They performed great on gravel and hooked up like race tires on the pavement.

Gotta question re the trailer...does/will it have some sort of suspension? I was sold a trailer by my buddy for peanuts however it has no suspension. I know he's used it for years without hassle, but I saw it jump around (no load) when going over pot holes etc which got me worried. I don't want to see me pride & joy sliding on its side

It's hard to see in that pick but, it has leaf springs. I'll post up when I get it finished...
