You'll find stories about ruined splines on every single chandriven bike outthere. Theres nothing bike specific wrong with this on our bikes.

I never stake the nut, i use a dab of threadlocker and tigten the nut.
I change gearing a lot, so this helps to ease the task of changing the CS sprocket during a trip.
