More engine OIL capacity____????

Is there a way to ad a tank to the oil sistem to put more oil quantity in the engine???can i put an oil coler to this engine??

You don't need more oil.

More oil isn't going to make your engine last longer.

Where do you get that kind of information from?

Nicola007: Back in the air cooled engine days oil would actually aid in cooling, so increased oil capacity could increase engine life. With liquid cooling the oil merely has to lubricate the engine. The capacity of the WR is adequate to do so. (I am stating this only from faith in the Yamaha engineers, if it needed more capacity they would have designed it in or increased it in models since 2008. Has anybody here experienced an oil related failure?). Also, unless you routinely have oil temperatures in the 230 to 260 degree area you do not need an oil cooler. Change your oil oftener if you are concerned with longevity, although 3000-4000 miles on modern petroleum or blends is well within the life range. Keep your air filter clean. Bounce it off the rev limiter at least once per ride to "blow out the carbon" ('') (just kidding) ride and enjoy!

Even in liquid cooled motors the oil still cools the motor, its just a secondary cooling system instead of primary like it is in an air cooled motor.

More oil is mainly going to make the oil last longer between changes, which if you aren't up on the maintenance can mean prolonged engine life. Unlike MX and enduro bikes from the big 5, the WRR has enough capacity from the factory and an oiling system designed for longish oil change intervals (OCI) and long rides at highway speeds.

Even with a filter adapter, there aren't a ton of places to add oil capacity via a cooler on the bike where it would be protected. Run a quality synthetic, change the oil relatively frequently. I usually change when shifting becomes notchy, anywhere from 2000-3000 miles, or after a couple really dusty trail rides.

In my opinion, it would be a pain in the ass for little gain in reality, if any.
I'm curious if you had an amount of engine oil capacity in mind you were shooting for.

A typical 400cc dual-purpose or off-road bike is 2 quarts, for comparison.

If it means anything, there have been many of 250cc dual-purpose and off-road 4-stroke bikes that held the same amount of engine oil (a quart-and-a-half), and they had solid reputations for reliability.

The WRR doesn't have a 2.5-3.2L air cooled flat six, potentially with turbocharger, hanging off the ass end of a car out of the airflow and enclosed in a metal box. It also doesn't use the frame for its sump like other dry sump bike nor does it have space to store 9L of oil outside of the motor.

It has a .25L motor thats water cooled and is open to ambient air. Modern oils don't break down in 500 miles. Run a good synthetic if you're concerned with oil life.

So in your mind, Yamaha, and all the Yamaha designers and engineers are idiots and they don't know what they are doing or what they should recommend.

no just wanted to put a small oil coler with a thermostat....in the future a turbo will be on the bike,,thinking of runing the turbo on an external electric oil pump,its know the turbo heats oil a lot.just want to extend the life of the bike..,

A) you never mentioned anything about adding a turbo in your original post

B) from what I've seen/read on other forums, even adding a turbo kit doesn't require more oil capacity, or even an oil cooler

no one..want to experiment a bit..nothing else..turbo will come in the future.the turbo will be behind the rear silencer so its not visible and will have a shorter route to the intake .if the yamaha has built the engine with those oil capacities ok good.for the engine without a turbo...are you all sure that a durable turbo engine yamaha will have good oil pressure lubrificating the turbo which is hoot with so small oil capacities you know that a turbo degreads oil propertys faster and has higher oil temp?..when the time comes will post pictures of the process

If you are completely designing your own turbo kit - you're on your own.

I though of an external cooler as well, it certainly couldn't hurt. However, in the end, I just made sure my bashplate had plenty of cooling holes in it, so not to obstruct the air flowing over the cases. I had more luck in engine temperature reduction by replacing the stock radiator louvers with a Flatland Racing radiator guard. That immediately showed a substantial airflow increase and the fan cycled on far less in hot weather.

CPW Safari Australia make an oil cooler for the KTMs, not sure if you could retrofit it to the Yamaha. Id be interested to know!
